Izzo loves rebounding more than anything else and hasn't been past the first weekend of the tournament in what, three years?

Good on you, assuming you are Sparty side, for acknowledging the role the refs played. There are some pretty asinine takes from many MSU fans on this.
hahahahhahahah .... Loyer fell down untouched. I supposed Simpson having a firm grasp on his wrist and yanking him down was just a mirage.

I get it ... It's a Michigan tradition. They never lose a game, they either they got tripped, or the clock guy cheated, or Delaney, or the refs.

OK .. here's a question. Did you commend the teams or the refs last year when Michigan had a 33-10 free throw advantage at Breslin? Who won that game. The Wolverines or the refs? I know who I said lost the game.

Final Thought/Question. Is Brazdeikes going pro? That dude can play.

            • Sparty had some help with the refs just to stay in the game on Saturday, second half M lost the game when they couldn't get the ball through the hoop and their best player was taken off the floor.

                Correct.

                • You mean the game in which Bridges chucked jumpers all day and Izzo started fouling Simpson with 4 minutes left to go. As for this game, you could have watched it, or listened to Dakich talking about it. And before you note Michigan fouling late, replay the clip from the last two minutes in which the refs refused to stop the clock with Michigan swiping across everybody's arms. But what's done is done, asterisk games still count, and anyone who thinks MSU won on its own isn't likely to change their minds anyways. Good luck to you in getting to the Sweet 16 for the first time in four years.

I agree about Iggy -- good player. Averages 2.3 fouls a game. I don't know that the NBA strongly desires a tweener F who is old for a freshman, but he's ambidextrous, shoots well from 3 and plays both ends of the court. There's definitely a place for him in the league. I'm sure he'll declare, but I don't know if he'll stay. He's seen that coming back didn't improve prospects for Charles Matthews, and it's a weak draft year. I won't be surprised if he goes.

                  • that's the point .... all losses are asterisk games.

Still gonna stand on your head and claim Simpson did pull on Loyers' wrist?

                    • Nah. People get it. Maybe not Sparties, but most of the rest of those paying attention can see that when guys like Iggy and Livers are sitting like that, and when Tillman can just push Simpson in the chest the next play after calling a pretend foul on Simpson, that it was an asterisk game you did not win on your own merit. Anyhow, again, good luck getting past the first weekend of the tournament for the first time in four years.

                      • They outplayed us, they got help from the zebras but I could see Sparty quitting if the refs didn't keep them in the game when we dominated for much of the first half. We could've, should've been up 15 at half time...

M benefits from a favorable whistle at times but those games in both sports we follow get forgotten unlike the losses.

                        • You guys are going to have to learn the lesson that the refs are always against you and you will have to adjust.

                          • I've been saying it since pitino provided a master class in ref-managememt in the 2013 championship, and Hannibal makes this point regularly as well. Everybody knows the refs are struggling to cope with what they face. It would be foolish not to incorporate that into any game plan. I was really looking forward to Iggy because we haven't had that super-aggressive slasher in the past. The calls always go to the aggressors in basketball, and that always seems to be defined by who is taking the ball to the bucket. That's one of the main reasons why this game stands out. Iggy drove and drove and drove, and so did Simpson.

It's been happening for decades, though. In every sport. They're not exactly quick learners.

                              • You need to STFU ......

I mean, I can't comment on the technical issues involved in the current debate - and I did watch the game - but I can comment on the larger issue of "the refs are always against you and you have to adjust" and talent's comment, ".....not exactly quick learners."

Well, you shouldn't have to adjust. Shouldn't. That kind of stuff should not be part of the game but it unfortunately it is. It seems the problem for M is that they play too nice in the arena of working the refs since it appears you have to. Shouldn't have to but you have to. Izzo knows this, chooses to work the refs and so do a lot of other coaches. Beilein probably knows this but chose not to in this particular game for reasons that we should all know about. But why should he have had to hold himself back or worry about the refs having an impact on the game at all. If the refs are competent and fair-minded there should be no need to "work the refs."

Maybe, just maybe, M fans are mostly right about shit, that does not involve playing the game itself, happening to M in crucial sports contests with rivals ..... and I don't care about squirrely, outside the distribution curve losses to Illinois or anyone else in the BIG. I'm talking about losses to Sparty and the buckeyes and probably ND in the two revenue sports that we all get worked up about.

The list is long and I'm not going to revisit that here. Refs should be skilled enough for them not to affect outcomes AT ALL. In the BIG, that's not the case and every team has experienced their incompetence. When they affect the outcome of a game to the extent that is being argued here and mostly agreed with by every poster, even Sparty guys, although the degree of impact is going to vary depending on which side of the debate you are on, it, at the very least, needs to be acknowledged. Maybe it has, in this particular game, sort of, a little, even by Sparty fans who came over to post. BTW, nice to see you again Masspartan. talent .......

                                Fuck osu.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
