He has one year of eligibility left but for him to come back they would need to open up a spot according to the MLive strory. It's maybe why they refer to him as leaving.

And if he did manage to sneak into the 2nd round -- could he even make the roster cut on a team on the next level? He has the frame, and could be a plus defender, but outside of that...I don't know. I just don't see it. If he takes his chances on the next level right now I think the odds that he has an actual NBA career are very, very slim. He'd probably end up as one of these guys who plays professionally overseas. He's not an NBA level player right now (and truth is he may never be). This season he was virtually the same guy he was a season ago, albeit with perhaps an elevated defensive game.
It has sounded most of the year like he's going and Beilein made sure that he was celebrated on Seniors Day. As for the NBA, he's a very good defender and athletic. He just needs to work on that J. I know it's a more 3-centric era in the NBA but I look at a guy like Bernard Robinson Jr., who had a similar make-up as Matthews (6'6" athletic defender) and was able to play a few years in the league. I certainly don't expect big things from Matthews but he's got a shot to make a team.

Edwards showed the type of blue chip player you need to score against an elite defense. M misses out on almost every elite target that are on NBA radars as high school seniors.
Thought Purdue could do better inside (defensively) against Virginia (who were allowed to be far more physical) but Edwards mostly made up for it by scoring at will.
Was rooting for the B1G and the Sparty, Duke game is a no win scenario. I think Sparty can beat Duke, they can make their stars work really hard for their buckets but Sparty is going to need to hit their shots like they did vs us.

IMO it's time to let the wings go. I'd love to have Iggy back, but Matthews is gone and if Poole's gone I'll wish him the best and think the next guy up will be just fine. The bottom line is that a Beilein team is going to generate open looks from 3. No matter if anybody switchs screens 1 through 5, there will always be open looks from there. He has to have shooters. He's had enough success that he no longer has to choose one-dimensional players. I love both of those guys, but I hope we never see another Charles Matthews or another Nik Stauskas. It's time for two-way players. There's gads of talent on the roster who might fit the bill and two very nice wing recruits coming in.

I can't imagine Poole opting for the next level either. Not at this point. Poole is not an NBA player right now. Maybe after next season, but he is 100% not ready for the next level. Waaayyyyy too inconsistent, and as it has been often pointed out, his shot selection is clearly below the median line.Last edited by Niffla; April 3, 2019, 10:34 AM.AAL: KhaDarel Hodges

The only guy I think would get drafted right now is Iggy, and that's because he was the conference freshman of the year and leading scorer throughout the season for Michigan. I could see an NBA team taking him in the 2nd round and trying to mold and develop him. Now I don't think Iggy is near ready either, but I could see him getting drafted.
Matthews, Poole, Teske...I don't see any of these three getting drafted this year. It appears that Charles had already made his decision though prior to the season, so I highly doubt he returns. Poole and Teske though absolutely have a large chasm to fill as far as room for improvement goes. And under Coach B I would expect both to take nice leaps next season.AAL: KhaDarel Hodges

Well the NBA drafts on potential first and production second, but the problem with a guy with iffy decision-making is that he's now making another decision...
IMO I'd hate to lose both of them, and would like both back, but if we have Iggy back I'm fine to see Poole go. Fun kid and gave us a signature moment, but great shooters are the kind of players that pay attention to the little things, and Poole's the opposite of that. IMO he's likely to waste his considerable talent.

...and two years in he's not learned much nonetheless. He's still all raw talent, with no proven ability to absorb coaching. IMO with his ability to create open 3s off the dribble he has a ton to offer the NBA, but he hasn't proven he can just make the simple/correct play.
