I'm telling you the model is to hope to Tressel-ball and manball them like OSU did to Miami, probably the last team as good as this Alabama team. No team can hope to match them step for step. Michigan has the type of personnel to possibly implement that game plan. Keep it close and hope they make mistakes. It would go against type for Dr. Blitz, but its possible. I don't think its going to happen but that should be the goal.

Alabama has a way better offense than the 2002 Canes. Dorsey was a nice college player, but his arm sucked. The OL, though, was really average. They made up for it with the likes of Johnson, McGahee and Winslow. But, they could be whipped at the LoS, and OSU did just that. The year before, their OL was way better. Now, the Canes did have a hellacious defense and OSU only managed to score TDs off of two very short fields set up by turnovers.
This is the really big problem for anyone playing Alabama -- the offense is as good as their defense usually is. The OL is stupid good. The QB is stupid good. The skill players are stupid good. The defense is always super-talented and annoyingly well-coached and disciplined. The have a monster DL and crazy athletic and good LBs. The secondary might only be average by UAT standards, but so the fuck what?
The Ohio State team thatbeat Bama in 2014 was pretty damn good. They had NFL talent everywhere. The OL has two future first round picks and a third round pick. They had 2 2nd round picks at WR. They Elliot at RB. They had 3 first round picks on defense, 1 second and 4 more kids who were drafted.
And with all of that, Alabama had Blake Sims at QB. If they had a kid on par with Tua then there's no way OSU is coming back from 21-6 down. That's the shit you're facing when you fly into the fucking death star.Last edited by iam416; November 6, 2018, 01:57 PM.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Clemson might have have the sheer DL talent to cause some issues. But Lawrence isn't ready, yet. IMO, he's going to a first round pick. He's going to be special. But not in 2018. And if you don't have a special player on offense then you can't score consistently against UAT. That's what I think M's biggest problem will be -- their offense functions very well as a unit, but so does Bama's defense and Bama's defense is way more talented. They would need Shea to be fantabulous. M's defense can give Bama problems. But they still have Tua. And a gaggle of first round caliber skill players. So, they will get their points. I mean, Mettellus on Jeudy.

To sort of add on that with another OSU example. You really need to be really good on both sides of the ball. In 2016, Ohio State was really good defensively. They had a secondary laden with first round picks. They had two second round picks at LB. They 3 top 4 rounds picks on the DL and that doesn't include frosh Nick Bosa. Malik Hooker had one of the best safety seasons I've ever seen (and, fittingly enough, made another fantastic ball-hawking play against Clemson). But, the talent on the offensive side was average. They had enough that they could take apart bad teams, but they couldn't out-talent really good defenses. Sparty gave them fits. M shut them down for 3 quarters. And Clemson obliterated them (though, they were inside the Clemson 25 like 4 times for zero points).
And as good as Ohio State's defense was, DeShaun Watson and Clemson were definitely going to get there's. That was the difference between Sparty and M -- OSU's defense could keep those offenses at low number and give the offense a chance to eke out enough points for the win. Not against Clemson.
It's one thing to win the B10. It's another to beat these southern powerhouses. And, unfortunately, I think Georgia will be up there with Alabama and Clemson soon enough.
And, btw, Notre Dame is going to run into the same problem.Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?

Really, all you need is Bama to be banged up. And you're dealing with 20-year-olds. Eventually they mess up and you have a bad play. Have enough bad plays while the opponent plays steady, Bama loses. Saban has managed exactly one undefeated season. Odds are in the favor of a slip."The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln

Here's another fun fact: if you compare yourself to Alabama you will end up miserable.
Its Alabama vs the field.
Its great to be the best (or one of) the best of the field. Any chance at all vs Satan, Ill take the team with the best defense and agree with Froot Loops game plan.

Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.
