Also, why was Keith Washington playing safety? At 170 lbs, it seems like he was more suited to CB and that is a greater area of need.

Washington would've been move to safety if he was falling off the 2-deep at CB and/or nickel.

Ambry Thomas & Jaylen Kelly-Powell aren't receiving red-shirts with so little depth at cornerback. Decent chance one of them is the nickel... Opposite Hill, it will either be Long or Watson most likely...

Sounds like safety & Viper are interchangeable, more so strong safety. Josh Metellus is pretty likely to start at Viper if Khaleke Hudson were to miss a start, and Jordan Glasgow would start at strong safety. JKP has been playing safety and Viper... J'Marick Woods will be backing up Kinnel at free safety...

Have heard very little about reserve linebackers. Really, next to nothing other than praise for Mike McCray & Devin Bush... Would like to have depth there...

Defensive line reserves sound like Carlo Kemp (Anchor - Rashan Gary), Aubrey Solomon (Maurice Hurst, Nose), Michael Dwumfour (Bryan Mone, DT), Luigi Vilain (Chase Winovich, Buck)... Least confident at Buck, Kemp supposedly to backup both Gary & Winovich and Vilain will earn more time...

Been reading more about Paye than Villain, though I think theyre both in the same spot.

Thanks Wm. That makes sense. Isn't viper essentially a nickelback? Do we have situations where we play 5 DBs plus viper? Could that be called a dime?

M's base package is essentially a nickel but you want 3 corners that can really cover in some sets/situations.

Thanks again. I hope we get at least 2 good cover guys out of Ambry Thomas, Jalen Kelly Powell, and Benjamin St Juste. If Brandon Watson doesn't show something soon, I think he will be bypassed going forward. This is always a frustrating time of year, but we see so little and have to make educated guesses based upon 2nd hand information. Two years ago we were thinking Drake Harris and Freddie Canteen might break out, and we were fretting about our cornerbacks. Lewis and Clarke turned out well.

What happened to Shelton Johnson?
Few minutes of Googling, all I see is he was suspended along with Mitchell prior to the 2016 season. Either he is buried on the roster (like Malzone) or I missed the story about him leaving.
