This article was linked at mgoblog. It's about Malik Zaire. For those wondering what might be the consequences of a Zaire start v. M, this is a good recap of a QB who has exactly 3 starts over 4y of college ball. He may or may not be really good but his resume isn't one of a star.
Keep in mind, Florida's OC is Doug Nussmeir. For whatever reasons, he never impressed at M and when he was at Alabama, it was Saban's offense. Moreover, Del Rio, Florida's QB heir apparent, is a pro-style guy. I'd guess Neuss is going to be more comfortable with that kind of player than with a player like Zaire. JMO.

But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

I kinda feel sorry for Jamie, bloggers, beat writers and fans jumped all over her. But hey she a grown women and a reporter (unlike us fans on message boards). She learned the hard way and totally underestimated the Michigan Nation (for some unknown reason) if your going to post a scoop about Michigan Football (in her position) you will be called out. Big time - Walking it back saying "not passing it off as fact. It may well be ridiculous" not a good look on her part.

I really like Orion Sang takes
WILTON SPEIGHT
Vitals: 6-foot-6, 243 pounds
Experience: Redshirt junior (started 12 games last season)
Case for Speight: Speight won the job last year and performed admirably. No other quarterback can say they went on the road against Michigan State and Ohio State, two of the Wolverines’ biggest rivals. That definitely counts for something. Additionally, Speight was productive in his first season as the starter, throwing for 2,538 yards and 18 touchdowns at a 62% clip. Speight is a proven leader and possesses the intangibles Jim Harbaugh wants out of his quarterback. After another year of tutelage under Harbaugh, Speight could easily be one of the top quarterbacks in the conference — if not the nation.
Case against Speight: While the offense is certainly familiar with the returning starter, Speight faltered late last season — though some of that had to do with an injury suffered against Iowa. But even before taking that blow from the Hawkeyes, Speight struggled to connect with open receivers as Michigan unexpectedly dropped its first game of the season after a 9-0 start. He also struggled with his decision making under pressure against Ohio State and Florida State. And while Speight has prototypical size for the position, that didn’t help his accuracy on the deep ball. Missed connections with Amara Darboh and Jehu Chesson left a lot of yards on the table, so to speak.

BRANDON PETERS
Vitals: 6-foot-5, 216 pounds
Experience: Redshirt freshman
Case for Peters: There’s the old adage that the backup quarterback is often the most popular player on a football team, and that certainly appears to apply to Michigan. Peters was Jim Harbaugh’s first hand-picked quarterback recruit, and he arrived in Ann Arbor with all the accolades that you might expect. He’s got a big arm, plus athleticism — he used to play basketball in high school and could dunk — and showed poise in the pocket as a high-schooler. He played by far the best out of any quarterback in the spring game, completing 9 of 17 passes for 160 yards with one passing and rushing touchdown each. His touch, accuracy and throwing power were all on display as he led the Maize team to a 31-29 victory.
Case against Peters: Peters hasn’t played a snap in college . It’s difficult to predict how he’d fare as a first-time starter — especially with a difficult game against Florida in the season opener on Sept. 2. And while Jim Harbaugh says the best quarterback will play, experience can certainly lend itself to success at the position. Peters is at a natural disadvantage to Speight, who has 12 games of experience on him and has seen pretty much everything. Additionally, Harbaugh has said he’d like to see Peters become more vocal in the huddle — an attribute Speight already has.
