  • By the time we play them, experience won't be an excuse. We'll still have more talent and depth than them.

    • Psu was really banged up on defense. We we're still the better team, but probably not by 39 pts.
Yes they were simply running out of bodies on defense. They came into the game missing 3 starting linebackers, and lost Jan Johnson to injury and Brandon Smith to a dumb targeting penalty when he was going for an int (that he should have had) in the endzone early in the game.

      • Drevno says equal reps for QBs right now.

I'm fully prepared to go through growing pains with Peters. In fact, I expect him to struggle early. We beat Wisconsin and Sparty "despite Speight". Peppers put the team on his back vs Colorado (and MSU) actually if you watch that game again.

As far as the criticism about Peters not being a vocal leader... I think that's moot if he can deliver the ball. Said it before and will say it again, Speight's throwing motion caps his ceiling pretty low. A game manager doesn't win 9-10 games this year. A first year QB probably doesn't either. The difference in this case is our first year QB can sling it and that's what we'll need to beat osu. I think we can all agree with that last sentence.

One more add: Peters is Harbaugh's recruit. Harbaugh could have went after a half dozen good QB's 2 years ago and he made Peters a priority.

        • I agree with everything WingsFan said except "A game manager doesn't win 9-10 games this year." Only 4 games seem like possible losses: OSU, PSU, Wisconsin, and Florida. And we'll be favored in 2 or 3 of those 4 games. (We're ranked higher than Wisconsin and Florida.) Even with a game manager at QB, we'll probably win 10 or 11 (including bowl game).

Still, I agree that we should be thinking about what gives us the best shot at beating the Buckeyes. 9-3 with a victory against OSU is better than 10-2 with a loss to the Buckeyes.

We will miss Peppers and all the others who have gone on to the NFL, so we'll need an outstanding passing game to beat OSU. I'm guessing that Peters has the higher ceiling, but I know nothing.

          • Keeping in mind that I know nothing about Penn State, isn't it possible they just got hot for a few weeks and lucked their way into the Rose Bowl last year? I saw their victory over OSU and that seemed like a real fluke. Perhaps all those Penn State seniors will revert to form?

Dan we will be underdogs @ whisky, @ psu and home vs osu. We are still a slight favorite vs FL - I call it a toss up.

8-4 at worst. We win 1 of the 4 losable games and we're 9-3. Lose all 4 and we play SE Minnesota State in the bowl game.

Michigan will be more than -1 vs Florida, probably -4 Or 5 and won't shock me to see it close to a td by gametime.

                  • Just looked, opened at -3, now at -4 for the opener.

                    • According to SBROdds, it opened at 4' and is down to 3' or 3 w/ modest juice.

But that's still a true Vegas line mostly. Only nominal action to date.

                        • VI casino sample basis is full-blown monkey shit compared to SBROdds' sample. That's some real Mickey Mouse shit, "The" Oracle. Sad.

But, it has got me looking at the lines for the opening week, and that's a good thing. So, hooray for "The" Oracle!

                            • Kick the damn ball already!

Harbaugh admitted the pick 6 (vs osu) play call has been eating at him all offseason. It was a bad playcall, and bad execution from the OL.

But, Marcus Ray spoke with Speight about that play. He was supposed to change the play, but didn't. Either Speight's owning his mistake, or the guy is trying to take blame for the team.

                              • Speight had to get rid of the ball quickly as DeVeon Smith missed his blitz pickup. Picking up blitzes is what we need to see Chris Evans do well this season, by far the most underrated skill of a running back.

Speight should've thrown it away though there is a lot of blame to throw around on that play/ play call.
