The Bird is one of the weirdest anomalies in sports. Back then they didn't think about protecting arms and the Tigers didn't protect him at all. 21 years old with 24 complete games (one of them a 12 inning loss). His career WAR is 11.3 and he really only had a season and a half. I only have faint memories of the Bird attempting comebacks in the last 70s.Comment
