Major League Baseball has incorporated Negro Leagues statistics of more than 2,300 players, shaking up its record books in the process.
I understand wanting to recognize all the great accomplishments of Negro League players but these were two completely separate leagues that didn't play each other. For that matter, I'd say all the gawdy stats from each league are therefore inflated somewhat. Ruth and Gehrig never faced Satchel Paige and Josh Gibson never faced Carl Hubbell, Dizzy Dean, etc. I didn't realize that the Negro League seasons were only around 50-60 games either.
I do always enjoy a trip down the Baseball-reference rabbit hole, though.

There is a trivia question there. What MLB team did Satchel Paige play for first (stay outta this, DSL)?
Bonus points if you get the year and team he played his last game in.Last edited by AlabamAlum; May 29, 2024, 02:58 PM."The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln

His last MLB game was with the Kansas City Athletics against the BoSox in 1965 to become the oldest pitcher to play in the MLB (the record still stands). It was a publicity stunt, he had a rocking chair in the bullpen with a nurse massaging him with liniment; however, he just gave up one hit in three innings (only Yastrzemski managed a hit, a double).Attached FilesLast edited by AlabamAlum; May 29, 2024, 04:55 PM."The problem with quotes on the Internet is that it is sometimes hard to verify their authenticity." -Abraham Lincoln
