  • I always liked 8 Mile. Me and Eminem are pretty tight.

I went to a bunch of games that year. So damn fun. Saw a game from seats similar to what you described against the Astros. Nate Robertson vs. Roger Clemens. Gator worked around a lead off triple to Lance Bergman midway through the game en route to a 3-0 Tigers victory.

      • Indian Trails Bus Lines runs special deals during the season where you can ride their bus, and they include the price of the ticket in a package. I may do that. I can't walk long distances anymore so I need to get close to the stadium. A shuttle ride may be a good option as well.

When I come to that area I usually take 96 nearly all the way in. I usually get twisted up on the exits, but I mostly follow the signs for Ford Field. If I get there I know I'm close. I've also taken Michigan Avenue in from the west. I loved that route when Tiger Stadium was still open. Used to be lots of restaurants and safe gas stations along the way if I needed to gas up. I wish a new stadium could have been built "on the Corner".

            • Corktown is booming in a way it wasn't by the end of Tiger Stadium. Woodward from Comerica down to the Ren Cen was boarded up when those two stadiums went up, now that is booming. The move worked. District Detroit has been a disaster, there was a lot of activity prior to LCA and almost nothing since the doors opened and the two teams are wretched.

                • The sad thing is, last year they were horrible but at least more competitive than it appears so far this year. Those 3-1 games look good now.

It's way too early. There might be a lot of early pain. I read that 29 of the Tigers first 32 games are against last year's playoff teams. The other 3 are the Red Sox.

That being said. Carpenter has some real power in his bat. Tork is hitting the ball hard.
2012 Detroit Lions Draft: 1) Cordy Glenn G , 2) Brandon Taylor S, 3) Sean Spence olb, 4) Joe Adams WR/KR, 5) Matt McCants OT, 7a) B.J. Coleman QB 7b) Kewshan Martin WR

Well, we could change it to "Why Mobile Alabama Stinks", thread.

                        • I’m not a Mobilian. I live about 4.5 hours drive away. Been a lot, though. There is an area that I know of that used to stink. Wasn’t from a paper mill, it was from a long time issue with a natural gas plant and the chemical they add to give the gas an odor. That said, there is a paper mill north of the city. Never noticed an odor from it, though. It’s possible, though.

Ironically enough, that area of Mobile with the natural gas plant was called Eight Mile. They fixed the issue, I heard. Not sure how any of this is relevant to MLB, though.

                            Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

                            • Braves are 2-0. Finish the opening weekend set with the Nats today at 12:35.

Jared Shuster gets the start for the Braves. Had a good Spring Training, promoted from Double and Triple A from last year - where he was very solid, but not completely dominant. We signed him on Thursday. I’m interested to see how he does but the pessimist in me says this whole situation sounds troubling.

Matt Olsen is great power hitter. Wish the Tiger's could pick someone like that up but that would mean they would have to pay them a little scratch and that don't fly now days..
