    • I like seeing some of the NL games. The schedule is something they can change to try and give something a spark.

I would take any schedule if it could make strikeouts fall and a return of the hot stove league.

      • I'm fine with playing a few NL teams. Mainly the ones that are regional like the Cubs, Reds, and Pirates. But I would absolutely prefer more games against the Yankees versus playing ALL 15 NL teams.

        • Baseball is trying hard to fix something that isn’t broken. Ghost runner horseshit. Banning the shift next year. Schedule monkeying. Playoff expansion. Bah.

          • Attendance.and ratings are falling. They haven't made enough meaningful changes over the years to keep pace with the NFL and NBA. The problem is the solutions you listed don't address the problem in any meaningful way but those are the changes they can easily implement.. watching strikeouts is boring, it gets worse every.year.

              • Baseball attendance reached it's high water mark in 2007, attendance has been going down for 15 years. Most of what we remember as the book era of baseball happened after the drab 60s where pitching ruled like it did now.

                • Guardians sweep mini-series from Padres. Now up by 3.5 with other games tonight. They’re a really fun team to watch. And their average roster age is younger than some minor league teams.

                  • Also, baseball isn’t going to draw 30,000 per game for every game. Those are insane numbers. It spoke to an incredibly healthy sport. Now it’s at 26,500. That’s gads higher than any other pre-90s era. Gads.

I think live attendance is going to be an issue for sports in general. OSU attendance is declining. I don’t know what they list it at, but meh OoC are 95,000 at best. A healthy number but not 105,000.

Anyway, Guardians are great fun to watch. They barely hit home runs (except today), but score runs in almost a Whitey Herzog way. The play defense. And they’ve found 3 very good starters.

                    • Finally, Jose Ramirez is a joy to watch. He’s so, so good in every regard.

Indians traded Clevinger for CQ, Nailor, Hedges and Owen Miller.

Lindor/Carrasco for Andres Giminez and Ahmed Rosario.

                      Corey Kluber for Emmanuel Clase.

Those are all total fleecings with only the Mets trade being semi-close.

                      • Cleveland's drawing 17,000 a game which is considered among the worst in baseball right now. I suppose for a team that's as good as they are that's kind of bad

But back in the 80's there were multiple years where they averaged 6k, 7k, 8k a game. And that was back when they played at Cleveland Muni which was the largest stadium in baseball for almost its entire lifespan. 6,000 people sitting in a 75,000 seat stadium looked as pitiful as it gets.

Kluber pitched 1 INNING for the Rangers. LOL

                          • Guardians have honestly priced themselves into a bad spot. Good seats are really expensive. Pirates and Reds are much cheaper to see.

Crowds were picking up for CWS series. Remember, for half the season they were slightly below .500. Not much reason to believe. But the Central is awful and the kids hung around. Now they’re rolling. I’d expect attendance to continue to tick up.

                            • The weirdest baseball schedule I can remember—the Guardians close with SIX at HOME against the ROYALS. If they can get to that series in the lead, man, they’re in.

                              • The baseball owners are trying to make changes to get attendance to rise up again, it's nice fodder for a message board to say how well attendance is now compared to the 80's but today's owners pay a hell of a lot more for a team. Too much pitching.

The Tigers are having one of the worst seasons and every game they are in it because they are ok pitching wise. One of the worst offensive teams you will ever see. I went to three home games and not one batted ball for the Tigers reached the warning track in the air in those games. We were going to go last Friday but decided not to, they lost 1-0 on 4 measly hits.
