  • Liney, I would check Stubhub for tickets. For low demand events like Tigers baseball you can always find decent tickets for significantly less than face value through the Tigers box office/Ticketmaster. Especially if you have the flexibility to go during the week. I was just perusing tickets there and for April mid-week games you can sit 5 rows off the field behind first base for $32. Weather could be sketchy in April, of course, but even games in June - July are way less than the posted price on the Tigers website.

    • Yeah, the law of supply and demand don't cease to operate when you entery Wayne County. $200 in April should get you two tickets on the Tiger bench and at least one guaranteed pinch hit opportunity.

      • First home game for the Bravos is against the Pads next weekend. I will be there, as is my tradition, wearing a Braves teeshirt that PSA gave me 20 years ago.

        Yes, I still miss PSA.

            • Obligatory PSA story. If you don’t know him, just scroll.

PSA had four season tickets to the Braves as a benefit of him working in the Ted Turner empire and with me not being a season ticket holder, he would take me with him or give me all four of his tickets anytime I asked if he couldn’t go.

The very first game we went to, Braves-Mets, I show up wearing a green golf shirt (I’m not a gameday gear guy, even with UA). He looks at it, and goes and gets me a new Braves teeshirt that he had never worn because my Ashworth green golf shirt was “too close to Mets colors”. I said “But it’s hunter green and the Mets colors are..” he stopped me and said something to the effect of that the green was closer to Mets colors than Braves colors. When logic isn’t logicing that badly, I just decided to take the shirt.

The deal was, in exchange for the tickets, I take him to to a nice lunch. ATL, as you would imagine, has a ton of 4 and 5-star restaurants. He chose McDonald’s. I protested and he “upgraded” to Sonny’s BBQ. A cheap, bad, chain BBQ place. Think the Denny’s of BBQ.

The whole way to the Ted, he told bad jokes and puns, but didn’t want me to broadcast his jokes or the his generosity because people ‘might think him a dork’. I laughed and said okay, but that cow was already outta the barn. He then said another reason he wanted “radio silence” was that he didn’t want it to get back to Ted that he was giving away his free Braves tickets. Like Ted Turner was on WorldCrossing… lol.

Anyway, my next game later that year, I brought his teeshirt back, washed and folded. He insisted it was a gift and decided he wanted “Italian” as his free lunch. The Italian? Pizza Hut buffet.

Over the years he probably took me to 2 dozen games and gave me tickets to another 10 or 15.

I was truly grieved when he died. I had been overseas and his wife had emailed me and invited me to his funeral while I was away.

He was truly a good guy.

Yeah, I prefer games during the week, and for my taste, I prefer going into Detroit during the daytime, rather than for night games. I think it just makes good sense.

I want to get some tickets along one of the base lines in the lower deck. I don't like the upper deck at Comerica.

                  • You’ll have the sun in your eyes more on the 3rd bas side. If you go to a 1:00 game it probably won’t matter much but if you go to one of the 6:40 starts, you’ll be looking right into the sun on the 3rd bas side until the sun gets behind the mezzanine.

I had partial season tickets back in the improbable 2006 season run. First OF box past 3b. Row like 7or 8 I think. Like 8 or 9 seat. Beautiful angle. I could tell and see the pitch breaking, especially with lefty hitters. Never had a problem with the sun but I always wore a hat.

                              • I remember working in Detroit for 6 weeks one summer...I was working for a company installing computer systems in radio stations...and at this time the station had a promotion giving away two tickets to the winner...second place got 4 tickets.
