Me too, but mostly because of the self righteous nature of all the gripes against the Astros. Given the opportunity to win, any team will cheat. I don't care who they are. The Astros got caught doing what every other team would do if they felt they could get away with it.

    • Same.
A team winning the WS and having a losing regular season record would be hilarious... especially the Astros in this instance.
Plus Justin Verlander would get his 2nd championship ring (well, 3rd championship ring if you count the Kate Upton marriage).

Astros, Rays, or Braves! Let's go.

        • Ah damn, that sucks. I think he was the last of the really well-known players from the 1950's Yankees dynasty. Don Larsen died this year too on New Year's Day

Brock, Gibson, Al Kaline, and Tom Seaver weren't just all Hall of Famers but also all first ballot guys. Ford was second ballot, if you can believe it. All-time winning percentage of .690! But because he got screwed on his first vote he ended up being in the same class as Mantle.

              Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

                      • I’ve never really hated the Yankees. I have envied their spending as long as I’ve been alive - their willingness to spend money and earnest desire to do whatever it takes to field the best team possible makes me a bit jealous. We had a small taste of that with Ted. For example, he got tired of our starters getting rocked, so he picked up Glavine and Smoltz in the late 80’s and then Maddux in the early 90’s.

Maddux, Glavine, Smoltz, Avery, Mercker as the SP rotation and then Wohlers as Closer in the 95 WS was just phenomenal.

                          • Maybe. But I think the Yankees pushed the rest of the AL to be better.

Not really. The Yankees dynasty came when they left the farm system alone and it produced their core (Bernie Williams, Andy P., Posada, Rivera and Jeter). An all time great (Rivera), a HOFer (Jeter), a couple on the outside looking in guys to the HoF (Williams and Posada) and one solid SP (Andy P).

                              • What I am saying is the arms race in the AL to keep up with Yankee’s talent pushed other AL teams to develop and acquire. The AL has just been a tougher overall league throughout history as evidenced by WS wins (and even All-Star games - at least since those became meaningful). I think the Yankees are a reason for that.

The Yankees record is just phenomenal. 27 WS trophies in 40 appearances or whatever? Crazy.
