  • Wow. Here the Tigers and Lions are in full gear and a Sunday will be cleaning outside work day.

    • I was able to accomplish that today! Better to give up 5 in the first than 5 in the 9th.

Absolutely gorgeous here today. 70 and sunny, low humidity, slight breeze. I’m gonna grill some meats while cocktailing. Best time of the year without question.

      • That ball hit the ground. Lazy officiating because they had no idea what to do if they ruled it a hit.

        • It was a catch but it didn’t matter. Takes the Roar 17 2/3 innings to score, but it’s good enough for a split.

Definitely a must win for the Roar. But in a 5-game series with two Skubal starts the other 3 are sort of must-wins for Guardians.

          • Bless you boys. There will be 2 games at Comerica this week, that all the experts said would never take place.

Aren't we glad that those who wanted to trade Skubal for "picks" didn't get their wish?

Mike - if the Tigers win on Wednesday, would they pitch Skubal again on Friday with 3 days rest?
Right before sweet potatoes are mashed, they get very quiet. This is known as the silence of the yams

            • The story isn't about some July trade speculation.

The story is about the great defense, the great Tarik Skubal and Kerry Bonds.

The Flaherty trade paid more dividends today on that great GIDP made possible by Trey Sweeney.

              • Liney, no chance Skubal pitches in Detroit.

And the Cleveland Fucktards have scored 2 runs in their last 18 innings. What were you saying about Clase last week?

                    • I think the ball hit the ground but that wasn't visible from any of the angles we saw on TV. Good play by Kwan.

The home plate ump was doing his best Enrico Pallazo impersonation. Jake Rogers loves to frame pitches that bounce in the dirt in hopes getting a strike. He did it twice today, but no strike, but the last called strike in the ninth was nearly in the dirt.

                      • The strike zone was a little wild -- especially later in the game.

                        Mike:

Clase has been absolutely fantastic. He got hit today. It happens. I happen to think Rivera is still the greatest closer of all time even though Tony Womack ripped him for a double and Luis Gonzalez jam-shotted a single to win the World Series on 2001. At least this was only game 2. And I trust you'll still think Skubal is a badass if he ever gets touched up. So, yeah, I stand behind everything I said about Clase. If you think he sucks, then we just agree to disagree.

                        • I never said he sucks.

                          • It's fucking nuts how fast these guys throw. Clase was throwing 100 MPH cutters. 18 years ago the Tigers made the World Series in large part because they had rookies Justin Verlander and Joel Zumaya who could both hit 100. It was a big deal because it didn't happen that much. I was looking back at the game where they beat the Yankees to win the NLDS and they flashed a stat about Zumaya and how he had half of the leagues pitches that registered 100 or over. Nowadays, it's pretty common.but that doesn't mean it's easier to hit it.

Clase ran into a tough stretch of batters there with two outs. Sweeney and Rogers have a good knack for grinding out at bats and putting the ball in play and Carpenter is deadly against right handed pitching. They got to him once. I'd advise them to get ahead and avoid him for the rest of the series

                            • Rivera also blew a couple against the Red Sox in that 2004 ALCS.

Regardless, that Carpenter homer will go down in Tiger lore. Just an awesome moment. According to The Athletic, it was the hardest hit ball Clase has ever given up.
