  • Braves do the Lord's work and dispatch the evil Twinkies. The Central tightens up!

Meanwhile, Bobby Cox's band of misfit toys is somehow pushing the Rays for best team in MLB. I haven't seen such a brave effort from such a thoroughly undermanned team since The Nick limped into Atlanta in 2021 and somehow beat The Kirby Death Machine. George McGovern was waaaay less of an underdog, yet, The Nick somehow managed to beat pocklet aces with 7-2 off. Goddamn amazing.

Anyway, the Braves heroic efforts this year remind me of that. I tear up a little when I really think about it.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

      • It's rare that I root for the Braves but being in the middle of a pennant race demands it.

        • Wanting the Twinkies to lose should be automatic...regardless of the circumstances.

            • I don’t see how anyone could dislike the Braves. Most here seem to be AL fans, Tigers, Guardians, and Yankees, the NL Braves seem to be an easy cross league adoptee.

There is no Ivermectin for Braves Fever!

              • I've been a Braves fan since 1974...but I hate all others. Some more than others. Mets, Yankees and Twins particularly (Twins because of 1991).

Damn. I thought I was old. Jeff Burroughs and Bob Horner would make good use of the launching pad.

                  • Yes the 70's Braves were painful to watch...but I stuck with them. Dale Murphy, Bob Horner, Bruce "Eggs" Benedict, Glenn "Mother" Hubbard, Rick "Summer" Camp, Biff Pocoroba, Phil "Knucksy" Niekro, Jerry Royster, Gary Matthews, Gene "Geno" Garber. Good times.

                          • Ken Obie' Oberkfell. A 250 pound first baseman that hit 4 or 5 home runs a year. Reminds me of someone on the Tigers.

                            • OMG! I remember him from baseball cards when I was a kid. Just went to his baseball-reference page and discovered he hit 29 career dingers in 16 seasons. Played mostly 3rd base, 2nd base earlier in his career. How the hell did he survive that long in the majors? Did they not have statistics back then??
