  • Yeah, as you know, I’ve advocated straight seeding forever. There is pushback. I don’t know if you remember me and CGVT arguing over it in this thread.

      ND cannot get a bye.

      • The thing they probably need to do is have some sort guideline about avoiding conference matchups if you only have to tweak by 1 seed.
        According to the committee's guidelines:

        What about rematches?

There won't be any modifications made to avoid rematches or games between schools from the same conference.
So stupid. We don't need to see Tennessee and Georgia again. I'd personally like to separate IU and PSU even though they didn't play each other but at least that wouldn't be a rematch from the same season. The hockey tournament specifically flips teams from one line to the other to avoid these situations in the first round. In this case they would flip #9 Tennessee and #10 SMU so the Vols would travel to ND rather than Athens.

        • Talent, I recall hearing a year or so ago that Gene Smith said they'd move their playoff game to Lucas Oil were they to host one. Have you heard anything about this possibility should they not beat Oregon in the BTCG?

          • No. Can't imagine that'd happen.

            • Yeah, can’t imagine voluntarily giving up homefield. Neutral sites - especially in a different state - are no real advantage/reward.

I think they want same conference rematches to avoid an all Big/SEC quarter or semifinals. So, UGA-Tenn (etc) early would not surprise me.

                • Turned off the Rutgers- Notre Dame game last night and went to bed. Irish were up by 10 and were at the free throw line. Rutgers came back, forced OT, and won. Crazy.

Rutgers is a strange team. Their only loss is a clunker with Kennesaw State, but they can look like world beaters.

Anyway. Bama-Rutgers tonight at 9pm Central.

                  • Yup, only 2 conferences deserve a 1st round bye and in years like this one where there will be a weak #4 seed will cause headaches (like Talent showed on the previous page) if you don't reseed the teams after the 1st round... This 12-team playoff (which was created when the Big XII, Pac 12 were usually relevant) needs some tuning.
