  • It’s time to atone for past sins and give Mike Price his shot at redemption.

    Comment

    • Wait, Mike Price was dismissed because he just went to a strip club?! Oh how college sports has changed since 2003…

There’s A LOT of smoke out there about Dan Lanning/ Alabama. It would take a $20M buyout. Also, I find it hard to believe based on Lanning’s comments about being committed to Oregon long term.
Eh… Despite what other people are saying, I still predict Kalen DeBoer.

      • I don’t think DeBoer has the chops for Tuscaloosa. Lanning would be much better on the rubber chicken circuit.

        • Dark horse candidate for the Alabama job: Sean McVay. The Rams are heading toward a full-scale rebuild, and Alabama has the prestige and the money to land an NFL head coach. They've done it before.

          • I think Dabo is already looking at real estate listings in Tuscaloosa.

            • I don't think UAT wants Dabo. I'm sure Dabo would leave Clemson, though. And I'm even more sure that UAT doesn't want DeBoer. Absolutely zero SEC experience; just experience with a bunch of fake bullshit schools.

Kirby, for sure. Dan Lanning, for sure. Demeco Ryans, for sure. Of those 3, Kirby ain't leaving, Ryans shouldn't think about it with a golden goose at QB and good young defense -- but Lanning might -- $20M buyout or not.

Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
              Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

              • Michigan State just hired Jonathan Smith though despite him being a West Coast guy. Best coach available. You can look at the Brian Kelly hire at LSU too.

Demeco Ryans leaving seems hard to believe because he has a young star QB in the NFL.

Here’s the Dan Lanning quote when asked about Texas ATM 2 months ago:
"I think I've been really, really clear here since day one. Everything I want exists right here. I'm not going anywhere," Lanning said. "There's zero chance that I would be coaching somewhere else. I've got unfinished business here. There's a lot that I want to accomplish here at Oregon."

                • But maybe his unfinished business was winning a NY6 bowl game. Mission accomplished!

No way on Dabo. Bama fans would revolt. He's made it abundantly clear that he doesn't want to change with the times. It'll be a splash hire but not him. I don't think Kiffin is good enough either even though he'd crawl to Tuscaloosa for the job.

                  • Well, Sparty ain't Ala-fucking-bama. And BK was at least at Notre Dame. But, even so.

I also think there's a big difference b/t aTm and UAT -- maybe not in resources, but certainly in brand value.

I tend to think Lanning will stay at Oregon, which will be a problem. In fact, CRD will get hamblasted by Oregon next year if he stays -- 100% guarantee. So maybe I'm just hoping. But I also think UAT will make a real run at him and if UAT makes a run at you then, IMO, you're in play.

I guess Dabo is probably their safety net option, but I think that'd be a real problem for UAT.

                    • I could survive without Lanning in the Big Ten.

And I don't understand why Kirby's name keeps coming up in the media. The guy played at Georgia and has them at the top (or near it this season!) of the college football heap. That would be like Harbaugh leaving Michigan to take the OSU or PSU job. It's dumb hot take nonsense.

                      • I *think* they want a guy with some SEC ties and experience. Who that is, is beyond me, though.

                        This going to be interesting.

In the same stable, Mike Vrabel and Ron Rivera are both available.

                            • I think Vrabel is the natural successor to Belichick in NE. I also think it's time for some good old-fashioned tampering. Any Bama guys looking to leave??

                              • Rivera, no. Good lord.

Vrabel, I don't think he wants to coach CFB. And I do know the Pats job is now open.
