  • We need AlabamAlum to come back and give us his perspective as well as some insight to the potential new hire. (Dabo?)

Plus, I need someone to talk SEC basketball with.

      Not even a question.

I imagine at 72 he's had enough of the NIL/Portal bullshit.

He has nothing more to prove.

I hope he lives longer than Bear Bryant did after he retired.

      • Yeah, it’s not even close. Total legend.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
        Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

        • Dan Lanning would be my first choice.

          • Mad respect for Saban. I always enjoyed watching his teams play. This will create a domino effect through the sport because that’s a big boy job that doesn’t go to an up and coming coordinator.

                      • I'd lay money on Dabo getting the job.

AA would viscerate me for suggesting maybe Kirby Smart would have some interest, but I think he's too entrenched at Georgia.

Mike is right. This is a big boy job, and it won't go to a newcomer to the HC ranks. It'll be someone who is well established and already a winner.

                            • Much respect to Nick Saban. Part of what makes him the most successful CFB coach of all time is how likable he is. Hard to think someone will match that success in our lifetime.

                              I’m thinking Kalen DeBoer.
The timing is right from his perspective to leave Washington because the players they’re losing. I predict Bama misses on a couple top targets (Sark, Lanning) and lands on DeBoer… which should still be a fine choice. Backup options can work. Good thing Bama didn’t get their first choice in Rich Rodriguez last time they were hiring!

Now for the comic relief choice… I’m sure that BERT or Butch Jones would be open for the job!!! Pete Thamel actually did mention James Franklin. That would be funny.

                              • One of the most important college football games of my lifetime was the 2009 SEC championship game. The college football world had started to revolve around the SEC with the rise of the Florida Gators a few years earlier, but Alabama's comprehensive win in that game shifted the axis to Tuscaloosa, and it's been there ever since. You saw that in Michigan's celebration after that final fourth-down stop at the Rose Bowl-- those players knew what beating a Nick Saban-coached team meant. I don't know that we'll see such a dominant run in college football again. Nick Saban made his name, and his team, synonymous with excellence. Only a select few coaches have ever done that.
