MLB was quietly so appalled by how the 1995 World Series had been called that they brought the umpires under one controlling body, began instituting replay, and fired a bunch of the most incompetent. Unhappily, Joe West, as one of the most corrupt, bribeable, and showboatiest umpires in the game, did not get cut. An Atlanta Brave favorite.

Brinkman, the same man who called Tom Glavine's strike zone and determined it was properly 26 feet wide, was also responsible for the notorious George Brett pine tar incident in 1983, which resulted in MLB apologizing to George Brett and never assigning Brinkman to a Royals game ever again.

I was at Game 6, funny enough. I went to all the home games (1,2, &6).
What I remember about that game was nobody was hitting. Save a lone dinger by Justice. The strike zone probably was generous to pitchers, but it was generous to the bums Cleveland put on the mound, too. And if not for the blown plate call In game 3 (4?), it would have never gone to 6 to begin with.
