  • STFU. The point here is that AlabamAlum has set the stage for 11 days of sandbaggery for UAT's upcoming showdown w/ Notre Dame.

As an quick FYI, Ohio State had to play mighty Sparty w/o its center. Now, Josh Meyers isn't an All-American, but he's a first 3 rounds pick (maybe even 2). He's pretty damn good. And, sure, the snaps back to Fields were shot out of a random snap generator, but the point being -- you can succeed.

Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
    Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

Definitely would have loved to have him at Michigan. Top notch player. Tough, quick, should be a top five pick in the draft.

Good for him at Alabama. I hope we start drawing talent like that again in my lifetime.

      • I turned the game off at the half with Alabama leading 35-17. Was Don Brown on FL's sideline? Grantham = fail ..... or are these kinds of offenses and defenses just becoming the norm in CFB?

My takeaway from what I watched is that there is such a huge disparity between a grouping of maybe 1/2 dozen CFB programs and the rest, it's making CFB uninteresting. Pageantry and tradition is no substitute for winning football games.

There are the halves and have-nots of CFB and a lot of that has to do with recruiting. I think most observers still hold that cheating while present isn't the primary cause of the concentration of talent in a handful of teams. Maybe the latest LSU news reveals that it plays a bigger part than we might have thought but .... eh.

Anyway, this season can't end soon enough and it's going to be hard for a lot of fans to open their wallets next CFB season to watch live and in person the middling 100 or so programs when the same group of a only a half dozen teams are good enough to compete for conference championships and then move on to the mythical NC playoffs.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

First, CFB's popularity is primarily regional. It's massively popular in the Southeast, most parts of the B10 footprint. That's not going to change.

Second, a variety of teams are in CFP contention on a semi-routine basis. In the SEC, it's tough sledding for SEC West teams, but 3 SEC East teams have legitimate hopes of winning the conference because if you're in the CCG you have a shot. In the B10, M has been CFP competitive twice in the last 5 seasons -- down to the OSU game. Penn State has had a couple CFP-quality teams. And, sadly, Sparty even made it. The B12's new format means that virtually any program will have a shot at Oklahoma in the CCG. And the P12 is a paradigm of medocrity.

Third, it's the HCs. There's no earthly reason why USC or Texas or M or Penn State can't put together a CFP-competitive program.

Fourth, the recruits follow the programs that win. There's a reason why M will outrecruit Kentucky or South Carolina or Arkansas or other middling SEC programs.

Finally, I can certainly see some fans going your way. That's understandable. I think attending games is a much harder sell these days and that sell is even harder if your program is no better than, say, Rutgers. But I think the aggregate is still holding steady or trending slightly upward.

In any event, please take your despondency to the proper thread. Speaking of which, aren't we due a "M Football in 2021: This Revenge Tour Replay - This Time It's Personal!"

            • Well, M tamped down the number of Revenge Tour Replay victims with its Surrender Monkeying. So, you don't have to worry about avenging Ohio State (or Maryland). And surely HARBAUGH!!!! can avenge Indiana, Wisconsin, Sparty and the Franklins.

Well, that the SEC probably has 4 of "the half dozen or so teams" capable of winning their conference and playing in the CFB playoff while the rest of the P5 conferences have considerably less - the BT having one for now - this is the appropriate thread.

....... I may leave it to someone else that actually has interest in what will continue to be a dismal 2021 season should Harbaugh stay.

                So, STFU.

                • At the very moment, there are 5 dominant programs to varying degrees -- UAT, Clemson --- Ohio State, Oklahoma -- Notre Dame. However, in the last 4 full seasons (2016-19), Georgia, LSU, Auburn,Washington, Utah and Wisconsin have all playing in CCG with a chance to go to the CFP and M has played OSU twice with a CFP bid essentially on the line.

                    • Thoughts after sobering up:

                      1) Give Trevor or JF or anyone else the Heisman. It’s a bullshit award and the only positive from it is using it as team motivation for our player not winning.

                      2) The Bama D is straight trash. I have said that all season. Evergreen post. Nothing’s changed. Hope to God Pete Golding is fired today. He won’t be, though. Saban is loyal to trash assistants. It’s his greatest weakness.

                      3) Would prefer playing in the Dallas “Rose”.

                      4) Losing Landon is killer.

                      5) I still hope the Florida plane crashes.

                          • Justin Fields should not receive a Heisman invite. He totally shit the bed vs NW yesterday. So bad as a passer that it might hurt his draft stock IMO.

Mac Jones, Kyle Trask, Devonta Smith, and Trevor Lawrence should be the top 4. No particular order.

This is important but it's going to get lost as CFB moves past the COVID Pandemic. The reason it is important is that it is a successful microcosm of how states should respond to COVID. On one hand we have the SEC responding responsibly and the BT imposing baseless restrictions that had significant impacts without concurrent benefits.

To my knowledge, no one in the SEC got seriously ill and significant economic and social benefits were obtained.

Then give it to Kyle or Trevor. Hell, give it to Sidd “Bigfoot” Finch. Just keep that trash award outta Tuscaloosa.
