The teams you hear about around here are LSU and Clemson. And that’s why I’m a “Never Dabo” person when Saban retires. Alabama gets way too much scrutiny. But wait and see, when Lord Saban retires, that’s who we go after. A Bama kid who played for Stallings who wants to come home. But shortly after he does, we’re getting nuked from orbit by the NCAA.

    • The word I used was "flagrantly" -- so it should be things that people know or hear about, and recruiting guys hear it all. So, LSU should probably be at the top -- but the guys I read seem to think a trip to Athens is quite the reward.

Clemson, obviously, is up there, but my sense with them is that they have a professional system in place to keep this shit tamped down (unlike, say, LSU's set-up).

The B10 school, btw -- ask yourself, heh, who was able to lure Rakim Jarrett from LSU? LOL.

FTR -- my favorite OSU insider would say you probably don't want to know what Tressel did -- it's not "SEC bad", but...and then, UFM wouldn't really tolerate it -- it happens, for sure, but UFM wanted none of it.

He would also say South Florida recruits and handlers are, by far and away, the biggest free marketers out there. Specifically Dade and Broward public schools. Heh. STA kids are hit or miss; Miami city kids -- that's going to cost.

      • I’m not sure how tamped down or professional Clemson’s stuff is or has been. They are teflon, though, and for whatever reason so is most of the ACC over the last 10 years or so. Or so I’ve heard. I won’t mention any names of players on a public forum Justyn case someone is reading this.

And the rest of the ACC: Take UNC’s academic scandal. You think Bama would’ve skated on that? The Miami stuff with Nevin Shapiro and losing only 3 schollies a year for a few years (divided however they please), as well as basketball and the like. True systemic LOIC.

As far as the BigTen team. Hate to hear that for Lox. He’s a good guy. Would like to see him do well.

        • The UNC scandal, in particular, was really bad, IMO. I don't much care about individuals realizing compensation for their value. I'm an American. However, I do think the Universities have an obligation to educate their student-athletes -- the vast majority of whom won't make money professionally. It doesn't have to be to same standard as the rest of the student body because, well, they're clearly not on par with the rest of the student body. But, it still has to be a good faith effort to make these kids learn and obtain a degree of value. It's sort of two-pronged approach that argues for student-athletes capitalizing, as much as they can, on their temporally-sensitive abilities so that they can best function in society for the duration. Compensation now; education for later.

Anyway, the UNC bullshit really bothered me and they skated.

As for Maryland, they're in the East. There are some players in the DC Metro that they need to compete for if they want to, say, become the next Sparty.

As a Maryland aside, everyone up here knows who "turned in" Chase Young last year for that ginormous bullshit. Everyone. Lox is going to deal with an extremely vengeful, angry behemoth for awhile

          • So Lox turned in Chase? I had not heard that. Certainly not his character as I know it. Pity.

            • Someone within the Maryland program did. It may not have been condoned by Lox, but it happened.

              • Ahh. At least it wasn’t directly him. I know for a fact when Lox was at Bama and was hit up for cash from a prospect’s family, he had Saban take the kid off our board. Happened more than once. Never tried to bury the kid. The Crystal Ball just went away. And so did we.

                • Interesting. I'll double back on the Maryland thing. I've only heard it from one person.

                  • When Taulia wanted to xfer out to play for Maryland, Lox called for Saban’s permission and blessing - even though he didn’t have to. Contrast that with Kirby who took pics of Bama’s recruiting board, was trying to flip kids to Georgia while still wearing Alabama crimson, then publicly raked Saban for not allowing the Maurice Smith xfer at the same time he was blocking a UGA kid from leaving to play for Richt. When a kid wants to xfer TO Georgia, no problem. Mauruce, Cade Mays, the line of QBs that xfer in, etc, etc. When they want to LEAVE Georgia? lol, no. Never.

                      • Oh, if Bama loses, I would be okay with that. I would also be okay with him being hit by a bus as he leaves the clinic that just diagnosed him with erectile dysfunction and leprosy.

                        • We'll table the latter as Plan B.

I haven't perused Georgia boards in awhile, but man, Justin Fields sure gets them worked up and sure seems to bring out some ire against Kirby.

                          • Kirby cannot evaluate QB talent and he won’t let his coaches decide the starter. It’s awesome. I hope he never changes.
