  • That would be hilarious if OSU and M or whoever got a one-year contract to join the SEC.

    • That would be fantastic. The OSU players posted something about absolutely wanting to play.

Fuck it. Add OSU and Clemson and get on with it.

      • Unfortunately, OSU apparently joined 11 others in voting to cancel. So, fuck them.

        • Yeah, the OSU players have been loud on this. They want to play. Same with Clemson. Likely, the BigTen and ACC commishes would try and threaten one-year defectors, but it would be an empty threat. OSU is a power broker in the BigTen (along with M) and the same goes for Clemson in the ACC (while UNC and Duke rule BBall, Clemson is the big dog in football and indispensable).

          • This is a decision made more out of liability concerns than actual regard for player health. Catching covid in the locker room = bad. Catching covid at some off-campus party = who cares.

Presidents of universities control everything. And that vote was the PC “safe” call.

Yeah, there would be some liability, but 98.8% of people under the age of 27 do NOT require hospitalization. For the vast majority, it would be “stay home until you feel better”. Make sure the players who opt in sign an informed consent document and get on with it.

Correct. Buncha pussies. When we look back on this pandemic there's going to ample opportunity for second-guessing, both in containment terms and gross overreaction terms.

                  • The thing is, the SEC presidents will probably cave because they will be concerned with the optics if other Power5 Conferences cancel and the SEC doesn’t. Every SEC player who gets Covid will have an article written about the “travesty” by Wolken or McMurphy or Forde or whomever and the last thing the presidents want is some “30 for 30” or “Behind the Lines” on the SEC.

                    • What I don't get is how you can claim it's 'safe' to have students on campus if you don't think it's safe to play football. You at least have more control over the movements of the players.

Also I wonder how much concern there was over off-campus parties and tailgating on gamedays. Local police everywhere probably wants fuck all to do with policing that. But there's going to be parties regardless.

                          • Anyway, if the BigTen and PAC-12 are out, I hear the SEC will still play as long as the BigXII and ACC do (in other words, if a simple majority of P5 schools elect to play). If the ACC and/or the BigXII cancel, so will the SEC.

                            • It’s all so depressing. I mean fuck the PAC12, but the BigTen is a real conference. And when Bama wins the NC, everyone will be saying “but if Ohio State had played...”

                              • If the ACC-BigXII-SEC become the triumvirate of CFB this year, I hope you will all pledge your support and become honorary Bama fans for a year. Nothing good or pure happens with Clemson winning another NC. In fact, them winning this past year probably broke some unholy seal and unleashed the virus to begin with.
