    • I saw it; I’m okay with it. But there are no championship games in Mississippi. Georgia needs similar scrutiny. There ARE championship games there.

Official state flags shouldn’t have a CSA flag embedded in it (and Hawaii needs to lose the Union Jack). I view monuments differently. One is like a museum piece the other is the emblem of the current state. And I think that matters.

You could argue that Alabama’s flag is a little too Scottish, but you’d be wrong. There is no such thing as “too Scottish.”

Georgia already got rid of the Stars & bars didn't they? South Carolina did after the Charleston church massacre

        • Georgia did get rid of the Stars and Bars 15 years ago or so and adopted a flag that was based upon the first flag of the confederacy. Kind of a “haha! How you like me now?” thing.

            • Ever read anything explaining why Alabama chose the cross of St. Andrew?

                1) Fair enough
                2) I've never seen anyone flying the first Confederate flag at a NASCAR event or from the back of their pickup truck

Well, if it isn’t at a nascar event or on a pickup, it’s fine then. Georgia just banked on the average person not knowing history.

Elaborate at the point of your choosing, Mississippian

Looks like Florida uses the cross of St. Andrew too but with a seal in the middle

                      • Huh. A sawtooth version of the St Andrew's cross was a symbol use by imperial Spain and the House of Burgundy for centuries. And since Alabafuckinbama was a plaything for the inbred, enormously underbitten Spanish Hapsburgs for so long, you wanted to honor them with their crest. Charming.

                        • It was officially adopted after the Civil War. The guy who suggested it was a Scot. His father had used a completely different flag as a regimental flag (blue flag with stars and a white saltire). Because they both have saltires, some think that it is an homage to his father’s regimental flag, and it may be, but it is different enough (imo) to avoid such scrutiny.

Saltires on flags have long roots with not only Scots but with Spanish. And as you know, Spanish explorers had a lot to do with exploration of the Gulf

                          • The Mississippi is presumably still polluted with the rotting corpse of De Soto
