                • Well, maybe he's listening to people who see things a bit more clearly than the data on SARS-COV-2 and the COVID -19 Pandemic that has been corrupted by the politics of it and enabled the crazy shit we are calling good public health policy. .

I was struck today by the headlines reporting on various government entities and political people searching for the guilty parties in all of this. Fuck that. Every ounce of effort should be focused on getting SARS-COV-2 behind us, cooperating globally to do that, nationally, getting people back to work, keeping the US economy from collapsing and all of that instead of trying to assign blame. There will be plenty of time to do that later.

                    • Wiz: .. after much contemplation, I've concluded that Mr. AA may have a point regarding the McRib.

I mean, the relationship of Kraft to BBQ sauce is akin to Marty to Lou Holtz. No relationship at all.

So IMO, .. the McRib could at least be served with a healthy slather of KC Masterpiece or Sweet Baby Ray's. It would make it better.

                      and ...

                      Kindly stfu.

                      • I just put two pounds of flank steak first seared in a hot fry pan of canola oil and butter then put into a crock pot with a whole sliced onion that had been sauteed after the searing of the flank-steak in the same juices until the onion was clear. Add salt and pepper .... that is all. It'll slow cook for 4h then served with ..... I haven't decided yet. I'm considering steamed white rice, green beans, tater tots, maybe all of them. I'll plate the meat which comes out tender and about the consistency of well prepared pork barbecue, IOW, it just pulls apart and is deliciously tender. An ice-cold martini before and a hearty beer with the meal for me and red wine for the misses.

One of the benefits of this infernal sequestering in my home and the shuttering of my favorite local restaurants (slowly opening in GA) due to fucking COVID is that I'm returning to some of the cooking I did a long time ago. Simple, tasty meals. I can't stand haute dining. Tiny servings of what is supposed to be visually appealing shit that costs $80 a plate. Stupid but, I admit I tried it ..... once.

                        • ...... oh, and BTW, I went to an indoor cycling class today, my third since returning to GA from FL - where gyms are not yet allowed to open.

Plenty of people I know, including my worry-wart kids, all 4 of them in the medical or medical research fields, think I'm crazy. Well, one doesn't. She, like AA, is an NP and understands the science, the facts and the low risk of infection in properly mitigated circumstances.

The owner of the studio I ride in is a MD/Phd. One of her associates, also an MD and also cycles, is an assistant head of the CDC's virology and immunology section. They developed the mitigation measures being taken before, during and after each session in the cycle studio. They are sensible and the facts and the science demonstrate you can substantially mitigate risk of infection, this according to two experts in their fields, of what are thought to be, high risk environments. Driving a fucking car is high risk. Crossing a busy street is too.

Look, I know I'm ranting about this but FGS, everyone is running scared from this bugger. And, make no mistake, it's a bugger; it's dangerous; it can kill you if you get infected. I'm not for a free-for-all reopening. There has to be reasonable mitigation steps in place - masks and distancing are going to be the new normal for a while - probably a long while. However, we rarely get to a place where reasonable discussions about re-opening are taking place.

But, let's get on with moving forward. Failing to do that is giving in to fear and the ton of misinformation floating around out there. That stuff is being promulgated by government officials augmented by a willing press looking for a scoop. It's awful and probably a more serious threat than the virus itself is. Sure, it's risky to predict such things but, my take is that any kind of re-opening, even with shit heads not acting responsibly, is not going to produce the surge in new infections that pundits are scaring everyone with. There might be some, and it will be trumpted as, "told you so," but we are more prepared to respond to that than we were when the outbreak started in the US over 3 months ago. I'm going with FDR here, "The only thing we have to fear is fear itself."

Two days ago, I completely stopped reading web based news and local and national broadcast news. It is mostly misrepresentations of the complete story and worse is misleading. After cycling today, and after more than 48h of not reading shit news, I feel better than I have in 2 months. A sense of normalcy has returned, hope rather than despair permeates my psyche. I recommend it.
