He didn't make an assumption. He asked if that is what it signaled.
It wasn't a bad question. A simple "No we hired the best coach for the position and our team" would have sufficed. Instead he rambles on about how the NCAA is unfair and everything else that is wrong with society. He tried to use it to make a point that had nothing to do with the question.
