And talking about Sam Cunningham and my refutation screed upthread throws me back to one one of my first interactions with Talent. 1997 or early 1998. Someone recounted the “Sam Cunningham forced Bryant to recruit blacks” horseshit and I set in and typed a longer version of what I have posted above (I haven’t always had the gift of brevity).
Anyway, here comes Talent who quotes my long-winded and detailed analysis and simply typed “Had no idea that Bryant didn’t recruit blacks until being bludgeoned by Cunningham. Thanks for the info. Glad “Bam” got Bama to change.”
Message board hijinx were kinda new at that time. Made me chuckle. It’s been all downhill for Talent since, though. That was his apex moment.

FTR, I'm not sure anyone can remain on an upward trajectory whilst being pelted by the radioactive moroniocy of _THE_WIZARD_ on an hourly basis. I’m embarrassed that we play Mercer this weekend. I would much rather we beat SoMiss by 40 than Mercer by 55.
The positives are obvious: we get to rest some banged-up starters and spend an extra day or two of this week’s practice preparing for Florida. I still don’t like it, though.
Florida, interestingly, travels to Tampa to play an awful USF team. The Bulls lost to NC State 45-0 Saturday. I suspect they will be doing the same as Bama.
