  • If you like CFB the way it is, you better enjoy the 2021 season. It won't ever be the same again after this year.

It will become a de facto professional minor league for the NFL. They may find a way to affiliate with colleges, but money will determine where athletes go, not education. If education is involved, players will not be required to be full time students. I'd guess as long as they take 6-8 credits per semester that will cover them. No more 12 credit semesters.

I think there will be an avenue for an athlete that still actually WANTS an education, but it will be strictly voluntary. Most will take classes along the lines of vocational pursuits.

And I think all this could have been avoided had the NCAA not been so tight with their money. All the players wanted was a bit of cash flow in their pockets for use of their likeness. Instead, the Pandora's box has been opened. Its all going to be money now.

    • The Big12 commissioner is accusing ESPN of colluding with not just the SEC but also the American Conference (who ESPN owns the tv deal with) to break his conference apart. He says ESPN is actively encouraging 3-5 current Big12 members to join the AAC.

      • Face it Commish. The countdown to the end of the Big XII has been on since Colorado and Nebraska left.

        • Fuck this, It is not college football. I don't know what the fuck it is, maybe pro-football affiliated with colleges?

Fuck it. Just Saturday pro football. The fucking sport got too big. Too much money was involved.

As you all said. It will never be the same and I guess I really don't give a shit.

          • Maybe it will all fall apart, I don't know. But I do know that coaches and administrators have been making a fortune off the sport, for decades, while insisting that players (the most important part of the sport) should be grateful to be granted enough to cover their tuition.

Tommy Tuberville practically invented the buyout clause and he's been one of the more vocal opponents of players getting compensated. Right after he was hired by Cincinnati he was being paid by 3 different schools. Auburn and Texas Tech were STILL paying him over a $1M a year to NOT coach.

            • It hasn't really been "kids playing ball for the Ol' Alma Mater" for a long time, although it is much closer to that at the Group of Five level. Maybe that is why I have been watching more of that over the last few years. I guess that is where I will spend my time in the future.

                    • Its pronounced pasties. And the only way to eat them is smothered with a good beef gravy. Those who eat them with ketchup are savages ... or Scottish...

                      • Gravy? Heathen! According to the Yoopers only Trolls eat the pasties with gravy. The only proper way is with ketchup. I am not a Yooper, but I whole-heartedly agree!

                          • Anyone who'd waste a good pastie by pouring ketchup on it has no idea how to eat those wonderful delicacies. That'd be like frying up a bunch of great chicken wings and pouring Kraft BBQ sauce on them. Total lunacy.

A nice hot pasty, straight out of the oven, on a cold winter day, dripping in home made beef gravy ... mmmmmm. Nothing like it. Those savages up north are always looking for shortcuts...

                            • This is all great CFB theater. I'm with AA on this. No complaining necessary. Sit back and enjoy. Fall Saturday's may change on the macro level and I'm fine with that - don't care - but I suspect tailgates and CFB games on crisp sunny Saturdays will continue to be enjoyed by millions of fans nation wide.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

                              • Agreed. I just want to watch good football. I suppose there will be a big drop off in interest among the uncompetitive teams, such as ours, but I can’t imagine not wanting to tune into Alabama-LSU, etc.
