  • Syracuse is a shadow of their former self. Their football program is barely P5 caliber these days and I'm pretty sure they have a miniscule fanbase and do nothing for the TV market unless they are very popular in NYC, which I doubt.

    • VaTech?

      Anyone?

      • Not sure they would leave the ACC for a tougher conference. Especially with UVa and some other area rivals still there.

        • I'd take VaTech. Or Virginia for that matter but I think they're probably too tight with the ACC.

          • Now ESPN is saying Oklahoma and Texas could move to the SEC "in weeks." Craziness. The buyout number is insane.
            So questions then...
Would Oklahoma and Texas be part of the SEC schedule this 2021 season? As in would the team schedules change? That would be entertaining. Oklahoma vs Alabama!

I'm down for Kansas and Kansas State to the B10. Kinda makes sense when it comes to the geography.

            • CBS Sports sent me an alert saying they could officially announce they're planning to leave the Big12 as early as this weekend

Their contract lasts till 2025 so I assume if they try to leave almost immediately they'll owe the other schools a lot of money.

              • I don't know how they could do it in 2021. Schedules are already out, tickets are sold, TV contracts are in place.

Maybe with some manic scrambling it could be done in 2022, but I highly doubt it could happen this year.

                • Yeah, the first step is declare their intention of not renewing their grant-of-rights with the Big 12. I read earlier today that supposedly the SEC has always had a "gentlemen's agreement" that if a school wants to join and there is already a school from that state in the conference, than that member alone can veto the addition. Apparently, Texas A&M is hoping to use this unwritten rule to keep out Texas. Good luck with that! LOL. I always enjoyed the Texas - aTm game, tho. I'd like to see it again, especially after A&M stomps their feet in a futile effort to keep the Longhorns out of the SEC. I forget what representative of the school it was, I think their AD, but he didn't mince words. He said the primary motivation for leaving the Big 12 in the first place was to get away from Texas. I guess it's like your ex moving in next door. From a neutral fan perspective I like it!

Edit: These things always take a few years to play out. There's a huge buyout clause for leaving before 2025 and that will need to be negotiated by the lawyers once the intentions are made clear and the SEC accepts them. Because they still need 11 of the 14 member institutions to vote yes. A&M is a definite "no" and I'm sure they're trying to get Mizzou to go along with them. I assume it would be hard to resist for the rest to have a monster conference like that. I actually want to see it happen. I mean who the hell are you going to dodge in the SEC? Holy smokes.

                  • Who among the current SEC schools could be persuaded to side with TAMU and oppose Texas and Oklahoma?

                    LSU? Mizzou? Ole Miss?

                    • LSU has a vested interest in keeping Texas out. They recruit the state heavily. If A&M, Mizzou, and LSU are all "no" votes, the SEC would need to keep all 11 other members united in the "yes" column. Could be interesting.

                        • Ha, good job Maryland.

Some believe the SEC vote will be 13-1 in favor of this. I agree because LSU shouldn't be thinking about this from a football perspective. 12 team playoff = they can still easily compete for a championship with a loaded regular season.

                          • I wonder if this might cause TAMU to leave.

                              • Back to the Big 12?

Now there is chatter about Michigan, Ohio State, Clemson, and Florida State joining the SEC. Not sure how believable this one is, but I thought the same about the Texas and Oklahoma rumor a few days ago.
