  • There was talk on the bracket selection show that Alabama got serious consideration for moving into the #1 seed that Michigan got, but Michigan's Big Ten schedule tipped the scale.

Maybe had Kentucky been KENTUCKY, and Bama beat them a couple times, that would have been the difference...

    • If Kentucky had been Kentucky, the Wildcats would have been a 1-seed and we wouldn’t be Champ-Champs (nod to Conor McGregor for that term).

Like I said, we are a mediocre 2-seed or a good 3-seed. Nothing more. We don’t belong in the 1-seed talk. Just pointing out that UK gets some favorable Committee treatment (or typically has in the past).

      • Oh there's no doubt that UK gets favorable consideration from the NCAA.

When I set up my brackets in ESPN, I have Bama advancing over Michigan. They're on a roll. M is not.

        • We are a flawed team. We have no big and rely on 3-point shooting -which runs hot and very cold. Our offense is work the ball around the perimeter for an open three and try to draw the defense to cover. When they do, we shoot it inside for a lay-up. If they don’t sell out to cover the perimeter, we can usually get an open look.

As I noted above, we go cold too often to make a deep run. Also, maddeningly, we muff a lot of lay-ups.

Missed it last year because, well you know. This is the true rite of spring. Not the celebrating by drinking green beer because some limey-turned-mick clergy drove snakes that never existed outta Ireland.

                      • Also, I hope Doug Shows doesn’t get a March Madness assignment. Or I hope if he does (he probably will), he doesn’t get us. Or if he does, I hope he gets food poisoning from dubious quality wings shipped in from the hinterlands of Nebraska the night before the game.

The best event in all of sports is about to begin.

I went to Pensacola last weekend to watch Appalachian State in the Sun Belt Conference tourney. My wife went with me on Saturday (she is an Alum) to watch them play the #1 seed, Texas State. App State was up by eight with about thirty seconds left in the game. Texas State hit a buzzer beater to send it to OT and App State ended up pulling it out, winning by three. My wife couldn't go Sunday so I went alone. App State beat the number 2 seed, Coastal Carolina by three and then my son and I went to the championship game on Monday where App State beat a good Georgia State team by 7. The Mountaineers had lost six of seven gong into the tourney and were underdogs in every game, 7 point dogs in the championship game. They put it together when it counted, hit some big threes and played solid team defense. It certainly wasn't power five ball, but overall it was pretty good, competitive ball and it was a lot of fun to watch. This was App State's first SBC championship and first trip to the dance in 20 years.
I am looking forward to the game Thursday night and hope they can pull off another upset over Norfolk State so we can watch them get their asses kicked by Gonzaga.
I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on

                              • I'm pretty sure that the "snakes" are some sort of metaphor for undesirables. Scots, perhaps? In which case, they got driven to the Southeastern USA, where we are still dealing with the fallout now.
