He had scads of talent to work with at Michigan under Lloyd Carr, and squandered it game after game, year after year.
He almost single-handedly destroyed the football program at Central Michigan. Had the Chips not had the good sense to fire him, and bring in Brian Kelly when they did, the Chips would be equal to Eastern Michigan by now.
Now, he's working for Butch Jones at Tennessee. There's a lot of talent on that team, but they looked completely impotent against App State. Kind of like the last time Mike DeBord coached an offense against App State.

It's hard to kill a squad's potential when they go 12-0 and win the national championship.
Or I guess Debord is to be blamed for giving up 42 to Ohio State in the biggest game ever.
Maybe Debord was that bad.
I don't put too much stock into first game struggles against an AppState team that won 11 games last year (their first year in Div 1) and now has full scholarships.
That said, I hope I am wrong and Tennessee is horrible.
