        • Payne is good, but he was at least #3 on OSU’s board and probably #4. It’ll be interesting to see how it works te JTT, Payne, Malone and evening Marcus Bradley.

          • Oh, I like Payne a lot. I think it’s a legit #1 ranking. Him and the kid who committed to LSU were my 1a and 1b.

            • Alabama and Ohio State combined have as many 5-star 2021 commitments as the next 18 teams do combined.

              • Emergency MLB conference since so many Florida Marlin players have Covid-19. Talk of shutting the season down which doesn’t bode well for a CFB season.

                • Something I don’t understand about the mythical recruiting ranking from 2020 is how Georgia “beat” Alabama:

                  *Both had 25 commits
*Bama had four 5-stars; Georgia had four 5-stars
                  *Bama had more 4-stars (17 to 15)
                  *Bama had fewer 3-stars (4 to 6)

You say UGA had higher rated 5-stars or 4-stars or less shitty 3-stars? Simple, right? But Bama had a higher average (93.56 to 92.96).

Looks like Georgia should have a higher average considering.

                  • Simple ....... Kirby >>>> The Nick. THIS you must accept as we just had a short discussion about the importance of the head coach all other things being equal or, as you and talent joined in skewering my level the playing field by paying players line ...... "first, you need a coach."

                    • My question was more math related. The methodology of the ranking was my concern. But agreed. Saban is a has-been. Dynasty is dead, over.

                        • To answer you question, AA, I think the ratings, in general, look at only your top 20 kids and/or don't value ratings proportionally. The added value to the class is not a straight line, but rather a line that curves up toward the higher ranked kids. So, I think it's better to have 10 98.00 kids and 10 82.00 kids than it is to have 20 90.00 kids. 20 kids. Same avg. The first class is going to be ranked higher because of the high value kids.

Last year, UAT really didn't have any "bad" kids -- their lowest ranked kid was 87. Georiga had 5 or so kids ranked below 85. So, at the end of the day, they're close classes where Georgia has more high value kids and more low value kids.

                          • Talent, yeah, I suppose that is it. But, to me, the methodology is wonky. I have long valued average over all. In other words, 21 kids with an average of 94 is better than 29 kids with an average of 88.

But to draw the line at 20 (as opposed to the more logical 25) is iffy.

                            • Football talk is a respite. I doubt we will solve the riots and Covid-19 on a message board, so some break from teeth-gnashing and hand-ringing and arguments about politics is called for imo.
