          • We went to Ybor a few years ago. My wife had no clue about it, but it figures prominently in The Hold Steady lyrics so I had to see what it was about. The kids got a kick out of the roosters running wild in the parking lot.

              • This is jumping to conclusions and drawing conclusions where I probably shouldn't but I'm going to do it anyways...

I think that it's a really bad sign that The Nick has been showing up in a bunch of commercials this year. I don't know if this is getting talk on 'Bama message boards, and I don't even know if Saban has been doing commercials before this that I just never saw, but I noticed a striking sudden uptick of seeing Nick Saban in commercials hawking shit. I have seen that pattern a few times before and it never ends well. I'm not up to speed on 'Bama's injury situation, but their defense is Nick's worst I have seen there since I started paying attention. I am seeing some signs that he's a little checked out. Moreso than in previous years, at least.

The injuries are the thing. You cannot start five true freshmen on D and be great. Throw in a not-ready-for-primetime QB backup and you have a problem. I do not get the sense he is checked out or anything close.

                    • Ok fair 'nuff. I hadn't seen them before which is why I wasn't sure if it was just perception on my part. Hot take, I suppose.

                      • I don't get that impression, but my behind-the-scenes time is limited to some booster functions. So, I guess it's possible, but I haven't seen it.

                        • Saban has done commercials forever. It is one of the weird contradictions of Nick. A guy with his personality is not normally the type to be hawking all kinds of things but he's done that since his MSU days as head coach.

                          Where would he go anyways?
