Three years before he died, Bo Schembechler said that if he was still athletic director, he wouldn't schedule the Irish even "if they got down on their hands and knees and begged....To hell with Notre Dame."
I feel like I am watching the destruction of our democracy while my neighbors and friends cheer it on
I don't know if it's the only thing, but in 1999 ND scheduled a Kickoff Classic type game in violation of a "handshake agreement" between the schools that they would open the season against each other.
Notre Dame always wanted a "warm up" game before playing Michigan. Bo says that there was a handshake agreement between the two schools stating that they would schedule the game as the first game of the season for both teams.
There were a couple times when ND had a warmup game, and Michigan did not. It showed on the field.
I have never understood it either. It makes sense in a world without revenue sharing, but if you are Michigan, you only get to keep one fourteenth of that wonderul TV money.
That's ultimately what we are probably going to do from now on. Or, at least, just schedule them as Game 2, 3, or 4, which is what we had done since 2002.
