  • Nah, no side bet. I don't feel good about any of the games on your slate.

    • Fair enough. The only game I am real money betting week one is FAU-OU. I got FAU +24.5. The Owls were good to me last year.

        • Not one SEC team will play more than 9 P5 teams in the regular season.

11 of the 14 B10 teams will play AT LEAST 10 P5 teams in the regular season.

          • Or said another way: most SEC teams play 9 P5 teams and most B1G teams play 10 (mainly due to an extra conference game).

            • OSU will only play 9 next year as our OOC is the weakest it has been in a long time.

              • FWIW, I agree with Nick on adding a conference game - especially since other conferences have caught up with the SEC and the excuse that playing 8 SEC games is harder than 9 games in another P5 conference isn't true anymore.

I wish we'd drop a G5 game for a P5 team until then. The problem is with the money people and the chamber of commerce folks. P5 teams want a return game. And that would cost Bama $6 million and some change every other year along with a few million that the city of Tuscaloosa gets. We can afford that, though, and should do it.

Well, you can dispense with "most" when it comes to the SEC -- ALL SEC teams play no more than 9 P5 teams. "Most" is appropriate for the B10 portion, I believe. I think there are 3 that play 9 and 3 that play 11 (including Ohio State!). So 8 > 6 = "most".

And, of course, the B10 plays 9 conference games, like the B12 and P12 -- much to their disadvantage. Nebraska's bonus conference game, e.g., is either a road trip to M or to Columbus. And the entire West gets 5 conference road games to deal with (last year the East had 5).

Not all of them do. You can easily schedule a middling middle to lower tier P5 team for one-offs. Auburn brought in Wazzu a few years ago. Ohio State is bringing in the mighty Beav!

OSU will only play 9 next year as our OOC is the weakest it has been in a long time.
TCU wanted nothing to do with coming to Columbus, so they backed out and rigged up this stupid ass Jerry World game.

                    • Anyway, the biggest thing about 9 conference games isn't "beating each other up" or whatever excuse someone may want to use to stay at 8 (not The Nick, of course). It's money. As noted, if you're at 9 then you're going to have at least 5 road games every other year. If you're locking into H/H non-conference rivalry games like, e.g., Georgia and Florida, then you're guaranteed no more than 7 home games per year (on average). That's a big $$$$ hit.

I think the ACC and SEC will eventually get there, but it's going to take some committed leadership and some vocal support from important schools.

FAU, Cinci, and Miami (Oh)? Yeah, not great. Although, next year's FAU team would be much better than one of the "P5" teams on your schedule this year, Oregon State. The Beavs were 1-11 last year and might be worse this year. Their one win last year was by 3 over Portland State (in a game they should have lost).

                          • Just looked at the schedule grid for the SEC looks like Arkie is the only one without a 9th P5 game. They have Colorado State (7-6 last year) in Fort Collins (a probable loss), North Texas (9-5 last year), Tulsa (2-10), and Eastern Illinois. They could lose 2 of those 4, heh.

P5 for the rest of the SEC:

                            Alabama: Louisville
                            Auburn: Washington
                            LSU: Miami
                            Florida: FSU
                            Georgia: GaTech
                            Kentucky: Louisville
                            Ole Miss: Texas Tech
                            MissState: K-State
                            Missouri: Purdue
                            SoCar: Clemson
                            Tenn: West Virginia
                            TAMU: Clemson
                            Vandy: Notre Dame
