  • Florida State defense played us better than anyone I have seen since LSU last year.

They played out of a Stacked 6 a lot and we adjusted poorly. Likewise, we stymied FSU. The difference in the game was FSU made some huge mistakes. You can't turn the ball over 3 times and beat us.

    • And they had ST debacles, too.

But their front 7 is hellaciously good. And they probably don't have the best DL in their own division.

      • Yeah, they imploded in the second half in all phases, really. If Bama could have had just managed some offensive production, it would have been a blow out. A beat down of epic proportions.

As it was, we only outgained them by 19 yards or so and they actually had two more first downs.

Saban is still undefeated against his former assistants. 11-0 now. Considering those former assistants are Mike Dantonio, Dooley, Muschamp, and McElwain - adding the Fisher scalp is nice.

        • Fortunately, The Nick has 4 weeks to whip his boys into shape.

I gotta say, that's a pretty favorable schedule. I'm sure you're concerned with LSU and the trip to Auburn has proven eventful in the past, but shit, that's a nice run-in. I would say Alabama is somewhere on the order of a -200 favorite to make the CFP at this point. That's remarkable.

          • Ole Miss, MissState, LSU, Tennessee, and TAMU I think will all be decent. I think you might even be able to throw -don't laugh- Vandy in there. Been hearing all offseason that they will give folks trouble this year. It will be interesting to see how TAMU plays against UCLA and how the Vols play against GaTech.

Auburn will give us big trouble. It's at Auburn, and if the Baylor xfer, Stidham, continues to improve, it could be a very tough match-up.

            • Of the group of "decent" teams, LSU is the only one with the manpower in the trenches to ugly shit up and maybe turn it into something like last night's street fight.

The only way, IMO, to beat Alabama is with a really good spread QB. Stidham ain't Watson, but if he improves a bunch maybe he's good enough that Alabama can't win with just it's B game.

                • Premature. We'll know a lot about Auburn after next week!

That said, holding any team to 78 yards is solid. And it seems like they had their running game cranked up. But Wilkins and Lawrence are a problem -- for NFL teams. If they can run against Clemson and control the LoS against that offense, then look out.

                  • I don't disagree, but I know that of Saban's 10 years at Bama, we have had some very dominating teams, but still trip up a game along the way. Of Saban's 10 seasons, only 3 were we undefeated in the regular season.

Historically, LSU and Auburn are the likely culprits to upset the applecart (and this year it's more of the same), but during Saban's tenure (not even counting year 1), we have still managed a couple of losses to Ole Miss, a loss to TAMU, and a loss to South Carolina.

                    • Yes, we all know that Alabama can lose a game and they always get a second chance. Bastards.

But, in terms of the CFP, even if they slip up, the team they lose to needs to finish with 1 loss only to keep Bama from the title game. And I don't see LSU or Auburn going 7-1 in the SEC even with a win over Bama. And even if Bama didn't make it, I think that win over FSU goes a long way to getting them in, especially if FSU wins the ACC (which, admittedly, may not happen w/o Francois).

                      • I think Auburn will be very good. I think they will give Clemson a lot of trouble (but probably lose). The AU D is loaded and plays with a bad attitude. On offense, Stidham, a couple of very good RBs, a veteran O-line...well, I don't like the changes they have made.

LSU didn't let BYU cross the 50. I think the Cougs ended up with -5 yards rushing and only 97 total yards. Now, BYU may be dog shit, but that's fairly impressive.

                          • Maybe not, but they're not anywhere close to good. Last week, BYU was only up 14-6 vs Portland State in the 4th quarter before kicking two FGs to make the score look a bit better.

                              • I wish Bama played Oregon State. You'd need an abacus to keep up with Bama scoring.
