He caught lightning in a bottle with a great QB, but other than that, it seems that he is pretty mediocre running a program that should be dominant in an overall weak ACC.

I hear a lot of people say that, CG. FSU had dropped off in Bowden's last year's. Is he a great coach, I don't know. I think Jimbo is a great recruiter. And his metrics are pretty good. He's one of, what? four? active head coaches who have won NCs: Saban's, Meyer, Jimbo, Stoops? Don't think I'm missing any. So, one BCS NC and one CFB playoff appearance and he's averaging 11 wins a season. I think an argument could be made that that's good. But I don't have a dog in this; just think it's interesting.

I agree. I think there are only a few "big name" difference maker coaches out there, and they have jobs and aren't going anywhere. There rest are pretty much interchangeable in my view.

LSU's backup plan appears solidified if Tom Herman falls through. Orgeron reportedly met with LSU athletic director Joe Alleva on Friday morning and the meeting between Orgeron and Alleva "went really well."
The question of whether LSU can land Herman or not seems to revolve around whether there will be an opening at Texas. Embattled Longhorns coach Charlie Strong looked as good as done after losing to Kansas, but recent reports have indicated that might not be the case.
He should be dominating the weak ACC more than he has.
Perhaps. 11 wins a year, a national title, and a playoff spot in his 6.9 years as HC is pretty good, imo. But it is true he has only won the ACC championship 3 of his 7 seasons.

After getting blown out today, he's gone. No doubt, imo.

He might good, but it is interesting to note that Kevin Sumlin is fighting for his job, three years ago he was an Offensive whiz.
Sumlin has had one good year (with Manziel as his QB). Other than that, he's an 8-win-a-year coach. But that's 8 wins a year in the SEC-West, I suppose. I would take Jimbo or Kevin in a heartbeat, even in 2012 when Sumlin was winning with Manziel's heroics.
