  • Simpson is showing it now. Just flashes, but still. IMO Beilein's Michigan teams sink or swim with leadership. Novak>Burke>Stauskas>two awful years>finally Walton. The teams that have done well in that period have done it different ways. IMO Wagner needs to be ready to step up and be the leader next year.

Biggest concern for '17-'18 is PG, Simpson seemed promising as a recruit but he's done very little as a true freshman.
He's come on late. Slow starter but he's got more natural PG ability than Walton ever did. Quicker with the ball, better passer. Needs to get a little stronger but the offense will work at a quicker tempo with him.

      • The last few weeks only slightly eases the nerves at pg....from holy shit we're fucked to god damn it we better get a grad transfer so x doesn't have to play more than 15 mpg.

He'll be fine the time he's a jr but if we want to have big ideas he can't play 30 min.

        • I'm surprised you're that down on him. He is admittedly still almost all potential, but it's looking a lot better than it was a few weeks ago.

          • Like like him on d a lot, so he can play there. Nowhere near good enough offensively. There are rumors he's got the 6-8 foot floater in his game, and if that's true, I'll change my tune. But he's pretty much worthless outside of 10 feet right now unless he has 5 seconds to load up.

            • Everyone else can shoot tho and he can drive and dish. He's got something he's really good at on which he can rely while other parts of his game round out.

And, defense. A good chunk of my expectations for next year are based on building on the defensive improvement of this year. Hopefully the offense will have room to grow.

              • Just hard to win at a really high level with Tum Tum Nairn running the team. Up until recently, he wasn't even on the other team's scouting report...anxious to see what he's got when he's counted on.

I'm naturally optimistic than most, so it's not like I'm writing him off, but he's all we have next year at the position...not ideal.

                • He's been great on defense again tonight though. Love that part of him. If he shows the floater, all bets are off.

                  • yes, the reversal of sentiment is a bit disorienting. But this is the upside of Beilein. He can overcome Lourawls better than Izzo. Izzo does other stuff better.

                    • It's so crazy....was back in Michigan all last week, seeing mostly MSU fan friends...almost to a T, they love Beilein more than Izzo and would switch coaches immediately. I'm sure there's some kind of term for that, but hilarious that Michigan fans irrationally hate JB and MSU fans irrationally want to get rid of Izzo.

                      • I'll back off if he gets to the Sweet 16. Early January was gross. But that's crazy about Izzo.

To be clear tho, I don't irrationally hate Beilein. I irrationally like him. A lot. One is not supposed to like no-defense coaches but this is the best no-defense coach ever. Broke the laws of basketball in '14. Still is a no-defense coach though. For now. If defensive trend continues I will be able to rationally like him.

If M loses, they'll be 0-3 in OT this season. Come on man.

Well, that's not a concern now

                              NW is a good team.

Thanks Zak Irvin for again proving your worthlessness by allowing them to have that final chance to score.
