  • Vegas just updated the odds for the College Football Championship and Michigan is 7-1 only trailing Bama.

I love the direction this team is going but man this is getting crazy. Just beat little brother and Ohio on a regular basis and then we can talk.
    F#*K OHIO!!!

You're not only an amazingly beautiful man, but you're the greatest football mind to ever exist. <-- Jeffy Shittypants actually posted this. I knew he was in love with me.

      • I think they're out of their minds.

Michigan is going to be improved, but I don't think we're going to be on that level yet. There's still some recruiting and developing to be done before we can knock heads with Bama.

I think 2016 will be a window of opportunity for Michigan to take advantage of a bit of a rebuild (reload?) mode at both of our main rivals. There will be an opportunity to catch them a bit down, but it will by no means be easy. Both games are on the road, and we haven't won at either venue in a very long time. Harbaugh had pretty good success at Stanford, when he took them on the road to tough venues. I hope that carries over to us. The schedule is still very tough.

If Michigan can get into November undefeated, that's when things will get very interesting.

        • It's the HARBAUGH!!! effect.

Fans saw how that worked out against osu in 2015.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

          • The defense should be pretty fierce and the running game should be an improvement but I'm still curious as to who will be the Qb and at what level with that person play at.

O'Korn seems to be the sexy pick but is he good enough to put this team at a championship level? When coach says things like "I just want someone that doesn't make mistakes to hurt us" it makes me think he doesn't have the talent he needs just yet.

Hopefully Peters and McCaffrey change that but that's a few years down the line.

Yeah, but osu was loaded last year. Can't argue with the results of the NFL draft. As much as we all would have loved to see a repeat of 1969, it just wasn't going to happen. They remember history too.

I think we've seen enough from Harbaugh and his staff to know that the future is bright.

Correct on osu was loaded with talent that frustratingly, for osu and M fans alike, waited until the last game of the season to get focused. From osu's body of work in 2015, they appeared to be eminently beatable in AA and year one of JH's tenure.

But the indisputable axiom that talent, not trying harder, not being more motivated, not being at home, not any of that fuzzy, feel good stuff that fans mistakenly believe should be conferred on their team, is going to win games. The pounding M took from those ass hats once again confirmed that axiom.

No question M has turned a corner and trending back up with Harbaugh. However, the "future" (winning national championships) is not likely to be next season as implied in the post to which we are now responding (M being 7-1 favorites to win the NC trailing only Bama...... pffft).

Let's be perfectly clear about that Liney.

                • Being realistic is the most commonly traveled road to mediocrity. Michigan all the way baby!

                  • I think the B1G and M's OOC is weak enough that a CFP spot is almost probable but those odds for a NT? We aren't near that good YET.

I completely agree, Jeff. Unless about a half dozen other teams fall flat on their faces next year, I don't expect Michigan to make a run at the NC. Being 7-1 odds behind Bama is a joke. Michigan will be fortunate to play in its own CCG. To me, that would be a huge gain.

But in no way do I expect the Wolverines to contend for the NC. They're just not there yet.

                      • I'm not planning on it, but it wouldn't shock me. Crazier things have happened. 7/1 is something I'd never touch.

                          • The odds sound about right to me, and the arguments here against them very weak. There's no reason to think that Michigan will be any worse this year than last year, and excellent reasons for thinking that our B1G competitors will take a step back.

Someone said that we'll be lucky to play in our conference championship game, let alone contend for the national championship. But if we play in the B1G championship game, we'll most likely be favored to win it and be in the playoff.

Obviously, Alabama is the favorite, but is there any reason to think that Michigan can't contend with Clemson, Oklahoma, Notre Dame or Baylor?

My opinion is that QB "talent" is vastly overrated. How can Tom Brady be a 6th round draft pick, and there be so many number 1 round QB duds? Didn't Harbaugh demonstrate last year that QB "talent" is overrated, and the system, surrounding cast, and coaching more important?
