A few quick notes,



Don Brown was wearing the Bo/Harbaugh darker cap thinner Bock M


Peppers looked really small playing LB. Wheatley pushed him back 8 yards off the line on that long run by Ty Isaac (who looked really good running)


O'korn clearly has the best tools of the QBs, good wheels. Needs to work on his accuracy.


Speight is much improved, not the best throwing mechanics but better decisions and accuracy than O'korn at this time. This is why Harbaugh has him on top right now, good motivation for O'korn to work on over the summer.

Morris looked better also, clearly the #3 QB Looks like he will be happy just getting on the field.

As Liney pointed out Harbaugh has made the spring game fun. The Maize team celebration was like a regular season game.

They looked at the stat lines and ignored the drops by the receivers and wasn't aware of how Speight's yardage mostly came on ~2 passes?

Ok so that's promising.

I believe that O'Korn only played 2 drives, and both resulted in TDs. Can't do much better than that. He's a good runner and uses that effectively.

The local sites are saying Speight is still on top and looked the best. What the hell is going on around here?

Don't pencil him in for a trip to NYC for the Heisman ceremony, but to my tired old untrained eye, he looked like a serviceable quarterback. In other words, better than I expected. But, so did Shane Morris.

I expected O'Korn to leave them both in the dust, but that's not happening either.

All that being said, I'm actually less concerned about the QB position than I was before. I think all three guys could be effective QB's in the right situations. I think the QB race in the fall should be a good one.

Morris, to me, looked the same as always. I really don't think he's improved since he's been here. Big arm, no accuracy, no touch. They should have moved him to WR a few years ago. If he'd play a whole year, I'd guess his stats to be something around 55% comp %, 2800 yds, 16TDs, 13int...or something similar.

Thought that Speight and Malzone looked vastly improved. I liked what I saw out of Gentry. For the most part, I thought that Morris looked pretty bad. Poor guy was just a bust who probably wouldn't have succeeded under any coach.

Isaac had a couple of nice runs, but Keith Washington blew the edge massively on a couple of those.

Can't believe how loaded the team is at TE. Wish it was like that at OL or LB.

For the most part, I thought that Morris looked pretty bad. Poor guy was just a bust who probably wouldn't have succeeded under any coach.

I wouldn't be that hard on him. He looks like he's filled out his frame a bit. He's not as fragile looking as he's been over the past 3 years or so. When he took that big hit a couple years ago, I thought he would break in two. Now, I think he could take a few hits without being injured. I'm interested to see if lining him up as a receiver is more than just a spring game thing. He had a pretty decent catch and run in that last drive.

My gut feeling is that O'Korn will eventually emerge as the starter, but his backup could be anybody. Speight showed more that I thought he would, and I wouldn't write off Morris yet. I'd still like to see Peters get the red shirt.

mgoblog's coverage of it pointed out that before Luck took the helm at Stanford Harbaugh seemed to pretend it was an even battle. He's not going to hand the job to O'Korn in the spring. He's going to make him work for it.

I'm guessing Korn for the next 2 years, with Speight backing up again in 2016. Peters will redshirt, then be the leading candidate in 2018 as a redshirt sophmore. McCaffrey to compete as a redshirt freshman in 2018.

You can say that again. Wheatly is a beast. K. Hill blocked well, then there is Butt and Asiasi coming in, not to mention the 6'7" QB from NM who changed positions.

I thought Morris played well. O'Korn has the best wheels, but Morris and Speight can really haul too. The best part of the evening for me was Ty Issac's runs, particularly one where he was hurt and limping around only to get the ball on the next play and break a 10-yarder. He would have taken one to the house except the LB (Peppers) ran him down (and if Peppers plays LB, he'll have to be running down runners from behind a lot if he can't do a better job of shedding blocks).

If he wants to see the field, he's going to have to transfer, IMO. If Gentry can't crack the 3-deep, Malzone surely won't crack it. And McCafferty hasn't arrived yet.

Maybe Malzone just wants the Michigan degree.

Can't see Harbaugh letting Malzone occupy at schollie for 4 years. He'll pull the plug on that.
