its not one gimmick that redefines recruiting. It's the sum of all the gimmicks together. Harbaugh is building a mansion one brick at a time.

          • Recruiting is fairly well-defined. JH's gimmicky nonsense is pretty consistent with who he is, and that's cool. I don't want UFM doing creepovers, but if it works for JH, then more power to him. He needs to recruit wacky because that's who he is. But at the end of day, the gimmicks are for show. Period.

The echo chamber is all HARBAUGH!!!!! It's been that way for the past 14 months but for a brief period in the summer when he took in a number of shit recruits to pump up his "Summer Swarm" and for a few hours at the end of November.

To those of us not in the echo chamber, it seems a little silly to say that a guy landed the 2nd best class in his own conference and wasn't anywhere near the top class is "redefining" recruiting. Urbs has yet to land anything other than the #1 class in the B10, and that included besting highest rated M class in recent memory (2013). OSU fans just consider him one hell of are a recruiter.

So, ummm, yeah, you'll pardon the rest of us if we don't annoint HARBAUGH!!!! as Recruiting Moses.

But, I do really like hiring a shitload of people connected to recruits. THAT is a stroke of genius. And I think the spring practice thing is interesting. I'm not sure it will pay any dividends, especially at a place like IMG which isn't a traditional "program". And I think it will be short-lived. But, if Urbs took the team down to practice at St. Aquinas, I'd be all for that. That's a real life "program" with strong OSU ties and some really good players.

            • I think Harbaugh's spring practice trip to Florida is the start of something that most large programs will do eventually. The NCAA can't outlaw spring football trips without being hypocritical regarding baseball, softball and track,...all of which have preseason and regular season southern trips. They have to do it in order to have any hope of a decent season.

Such a stroke of genius you had to say it twice!

                  Right.

Talent, calm down with your wacky silly recruiting Moses anointing bullshit. It's JH's 2nd year. As I recall, UFM had the 5th ranked class his first year as well. I'm gonna go out in a limb here and say recruiting is more difficult now then it was 5 years ago. JH is doing things coaches haven't ever done before which means he is pushing the envelope and developing recruiting tactics. Yeah, maybe only a few of his tactics will be mimicked going forward but to say he is not "redefining" recruiting is bullshit. Maybe look up the word before spouting off. There is no doubt he is changing the game.

First, they can easily draw a line between practice and games. Baseball teams go south to play games. I think all these southern trips are game-related. That may be a superficial distinction at best, but it's one that can easily be made. Second, since when has the NCAA ever cared about being hypocritical?

If they want to change the rule, they'll come up with some limits to relocating mere practice. And I think they should. I don't care a lick about a school going to IMG or Aquinas. I do think it could be an abused recruiting tool for elite programs that can afford to Florida or Hawaii or Australia or the Bahamas for practice..."Come to State U -- we're going to the Bahamas for practice!"

JMO. I suspect most M fans would in the same boat if, well, say, UFM was doing this

                    • I really like our "Gimmicky NFL Machine Inc. Coach." , almost as much as I like our upset chances in Columbus next fall. One just one breif season away from the NFL, Harbaugh owns CFB and is flipping the entire antiquated CFB world upside down.

Talent has bravely runaway. Yeah, OSU and Meyer are so vastly superior, victory is a given next fall.

                      Hollow rhetoric.

                      • I don't think that it would make much of a difference. IMHO the competitive advantage of having the practice in Florida is extra exposure to the local high school powerhouses.

You recall incorrectly, but that is of no surprise to me. His first class was 5th ranked. He managed to rescue a class not in the top 40 in the space of 8 weeks and, as per usual, top the B10.

His second class was ranked 2nd and hellaciously good. His best class to date. The class topped 300 points in the 247 Composite.

                          If you're keeping score at home, UFM's first two classes were 5th (281.67) and 2nd (303.27), JH's first two classes were 37th (194.69) and 5th (283.22).

You should heed your own advice about "spouting off".

JH has done two things that I've never seen. The creepovers. No one will copy that silliness. And IMG. Someone will copy that. Satellite camps are not new.

That's certainly not transformative/redefining in my book.

                          But, yeah...HARBAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

                          I get it.

                          • HARBAUGH'S Summer Swarm and spring practice at IMG in Bradenton were both really creative and innovative. We'll have to wait and see the effects if they eventually sign any IMG recruits...

Hiring coaches, relatives with connections to recruits and recruiting pipelines isn't a new concept, JH is just taking it up a notch or two and having a support staff full of them.

SEC, ACC with help of the NCAA president (personally amazed he's already taken a side to this) is going to shut down the spring practice at IMG after this year despite tons of others sports doing the same thing, including the SEC & ACC themselves...

                            -

Comparisons to OSU's recruiting success mean little, UfM has built a machine that's dominated the B1G and CFB some time before JH was hired at M.

                            • Oh, Prime....I remember when Hoke was hired and we had an annual OSU-M bet. Then you backed out in 2014. Then you backed out again in 2015. Then you didn't even live up to cashless terms of your 2015 loss.

In any event, I'll be here in November to take all that you can dish out after HARBAUGH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! dismantles Ohio State. Just as I was here in 2011.
