it's a shame ... I think he made an effort in 2014, but when things went south, he never could get back on track in 2015. I understand he is going to finish up his degree which is good. Hope he can turn it around at his next school.Comment

Green was projected as an immediate impact player, instead Hoke had him sit on the bench the entire year. Do you know how out of shape you have to actually be to sit out on a Hoke-led team?
He never improved, a tremendous waste of time and a scholarship, last fall, it was incredibility frustrating to see our running backs by committee struggle against OSU while fresh floaters watched from the sidelines.
Glade Harbaugh is purging the roster, can't waste the scholarship or anymore coaching effort and time on him.
Next man up.

Harbaugh, among other things, is a coach of earned opportunity. Green started with a clean slate with Harbaugh, and he could have established himself as the top RB on the team. For whatever reason, he did not do so. Siene Houma earned his opportunities, along with Deveon Smith.
I have no ill feelings toward Green, but I wish he would have brought his "A" game with him from the get go. He failed to do so with both Hoke and Harbaugh. That's on him.

People forget how hard Green worked to get in shape. Somewhere on this vast wasteland are photos of him before and after. He turned fat into buff. I don't have either the time or inclination to look it up. It certainly doesn't mater since he has decided to move on/ The fact that UM could not transform the No 1 back out of high school into a stud running back is an indictment of UM not Green. MSU took a 2 star running back and turned him into one of the most prominent backs in college and the pros. (Bell). Player development was the greatest failure of UM coaching. Harbaugh has corrected this failure.Comment

Siena Houma was a fullback. A forgotten runner. In Harbaugh's scheme the fullback, and tight end, are important cogs. Houma's success had nothing to do with the failure to develop GreenComment

But Green had a spring practice and full season under Harbaugh to get into the RB mix, Stan. He didn't do it. I think you would agree with me when I say that if Green really showed the effort to be in the RB mix, he'd have been on the field. But, as things turned out, he didn't even make the roster for the final three games. Some of that has to be on Green.
I'll agree with you that UM/Hoke probably failed him in his first couple years, in failing to coach him up properly to get ready for B1G football. But, at some point, its on Green to force Harbaugh to play him.
As a contrast is the example I mentioned. Siene Houma was listed as a 3rd string back with Hoke. Under Harbaugh, Houma played all the time. Houma took advantage of the opportunity presented, and got on the field. He was only a 3 star out of HS. Green must have came for the headlines."in order to lead America you must love America"Comment

Houma was a fullback--a position that neither Houk nor Rich Rod recruited. Houk had two yeas to develop Green. he didn't. That's on UM as much as it is on Green. It isn't Green's job to "force Harbaugh to play him" It's UM's job to develop him. Ask Dantonio how that works.Comment

That is such a simplistic analysis on what happened to these two players that I don't even know how to respond. Wow, coaching has no effect on the success of high school players at the college level and beyond.Comment

It's up to Green to learn and develop into B1G caliber running back...
DeVeon Smith would do exactly what DG would do, except he would keep his feet moving, fall forward and gain a few extra yards. DG would be tackled at first contact. DG imo was massively overrated, felt that way when I saw him as a recruit. Thought he could still be a good B1G running back but I saw a player who would need a whole to get up to speed and to get to the second level. He never showed me he could make a good defender miss.Comment

One, when evaluating running backs, don't ever get impressed by a running back running through wide open space, you see highlights all the time of running backs running through big holes where they did very little work. That is the offensive line, tight ends and wide receivers doing...
I evaluate high school running backs but what they do when they are in a pile, what they do with their feet on contact, their ability to make defenders miss, their ability to break tackles, ability to see a whole open up and their ability to stay on their feet after a hit. That's just rushing the ball and ignoring receiving and protecting the QB...
Le'Veon Bell 'developed' a lot physically after high school, he became a lot more physical, explosive, faster.Comment
