First couple minutes of the 2nd half have been annoying.
Michigan is trading baskets with Xavier and have failed to capitalize on a couple easy points.
I mean, get the defense OR the rebounding up to just barely mediocre, and we'd be so much better off. They have been utterly awful at those two things, and aren't off to a good start with them this year. It's early. Things will improve.
I usually watch Michigan basketball before the Pistons. Regretting it tonight. The Pistons play defense and rebound. Michigan prances around the perimeter.
That was mildly demoralizing. Especially that it happened in Ann Arbor. Xavier just straight up kicked their ass in a lot of phases. Well if not all phases, actually. But damn dude, our defense & boarding was straight gar-bahj.
And they got @ UConn, @ NC-ST, @SMU coming up. Is it just me or is there some real potential for things to get ugly here?
That was fucking complete bullshit. And, sadly, a very familiar way to lose for a Beilein team. Their style of play is pretty much equivalent to a kick me sign taped to the back of one's shirt.
Unfortunately I have to agree. I am downgrading my hopes for this season. Way down. I don't like belein's system on a year to year. It also seems like he doesn't have any fiery guys to guide the team (e.g. Novak, Morris, Douglas and Burke). It could be a very long season.
The size and toughness thing for Michigan wasn't good at all last night.
When you play Duncan Robinson at the 4, you will have problems defensively.... though Michigan has kind of played a player like Robinson at the 4 in the past.
If he goes to the NBA one day, I imagine he will be a SG at that level.
Beilein is a good coach but not more. The Ellerbe and Amaker years gave most Michigan fans a wildly distorted view of what it means to be a "great" coach.
We'll see how he adjusts. Certainly he looks poised to waste a very potent collection of wings. When you factor in how many elite Cs there will be in the Big Ten this year, there could be enough beatdowns to force a major rethinking of things.
No discounting '14 though. I can't think of a team with such a severe paint allergy working so well. Normally they fall flat on their face quickly. In '14 it was like he was breaking the laws of physics. Things could still go either way here, though Xavier suggests continuity from last year.
He won't adjust significantly. He is what he is at this point. We haven't lacked beatdowns over the past 8 years. A 62 year old coach generally isn't learning many lessons.
