Yet another data point about the, um, chemistry of this year's team. Until he shows otherwise, a major factor going forward for Beilein teams is whether there's a player who can provide that leadership and fire he coaching staff is not.

“Being an ex-mid major coach, we didn’t get these opportunities late in the year,” Beilein said. “You had one opportunity: Win the tournament. Now, this is like a tournament before the tournament.”

Adjust already, please. You can't be the scrappy underdog when you have more talent than all but 3 or 4 of the teams you'll face all year.

And, FEED THE FUGGIN POST now and again. Maybe they wouldn't be curled up in the fetal position if they'd taken care of Horford a little. Don't make the same mistake with Doyle, who has the potential to be much more.

Wisconsin has more talent. They don't lose their early guys to the NBA. They also have legit big men.

But please, keep ignoring the obvious and pretend that Michigan has ever had the personnel to defend like wisconsin.

I really miss Jon Horford, by the way. Watching him embarrass himself in Florida is really making me regret beilein not coddling him.

Hack it appears you're right. The players have confirmed for us what you've been saying. As a reader of this thread I also recall the link you posted a few weeks back when something very similar was said by multiple players -- in that case they used the word coasting. So I guess this is the second time. In light of that it looks like I've oversold my own arguments. Sorry about that.

Kstat, I was out of line. I've finally come to realize that every player Michigan recruits is not a future NBA-all star, and Michigan cannot lose multiple starters to both injury and the NBA in the same season and still be expected to compete in major college basketball. Clearly I have become the Matt Newman of the Michigan forum, and in doing so I have inadvertently encouraged Oracle to want to be like me when he grows up someday. I hope we can get this thing fixed so we can get back to discussing Michigan rationally, instead of immature fanboys.

People here conveniently forget M lost all of Nik Stauskus, Glenn Robinson III, Mitch McGary (who wanted to return) along with Jordan Morgan, who was very solid...

Give me any two of those back and M is right back at the top of the B10, even with LeVert's injury.

Man would I ever like to forget that, but this team is a constant reminder of what's missing. Overall, well, not above Wisconsin but right in that secondary pack, sure. Count Horford in there too as a potential difference maker.

Now that it's twice that a player has called out the team's effort, that's where the convenient disregarding of facts lies. If you don't think it's an effort issue then go tell it to the players who think it is. The Indiana game's still not up on line yet, but check the defensive effort with about 2 minutes to go. There was a possession where they lined up zone and just didn't bother moving. Pretty sure it was out of a timeout, but there's your effort issues of earlier this year suddenly returning. As a group they are present but not present sometimes.

Man we fucked up the last 2 minutes of the 1st pretty good. Should be up by more than 2. Happy to eat some words on Max from earlier, he's been pretty damn good the last month. It's great to see Irvin show up in a game they need to have. Par for the course I guess.

You said it after the EMU game -- confidence is a fragile thing. I don't know what it was like before Novak was Novak, but getting the most out of the team's talent in the future might ultimately depend on having the right kind of leadership from players. Unless Jaylen Brown comes here and is ready to lead right away, Walton's gotta be that guy. But he's got to come back ready to truly drive the bus next year. Having Spike as a crutch running the offense hasn't helped him.
