  • Walton is waaaay faster than Burke. Think back to MSU at Breslin last year.

    • if its that obvious, then you probably shouldnt be suprised when they make mistakes...

      • Walton had 4 rebounds. I think all of them came in the 2nd half. LeVert had 5 and so did Irvin.

The Mini line-up seems to work pretty well, except for rebounding. My hope is still that Chatman starts to gain his confidence. If he does find his shot, he can certainly help on the glass and they can go with a much bigger line-up. Doyle had a very nice game and looks like he can hold his ground a lot better than Donnal can at this point. Maximus had his one big game and maybe he has another one in him but I think he and D.J. are the spot guys.

Oregon looked like a legit team. It will be interesting to see how they do against VCU.

Crazy that Michigan hasn't played Villanova since their miracle run in '85. That game was a real pisser to watch. I think Michigan would've won if there had been a shot-clock in that tourney. I didn't catch any of tonight's nova game so I don't know what to expect out of them aside from them probably having a few more fans in the crowd than Oregon did.

Could be. I haven't perceived it that way. Walton's great at deciding to get to the rim and score, no doubt. It's not really speed that I see as decisive there.

I don't know about waaaay faster but I'd say he is faster. He can't jump as high, though. I was thinking the football team could've used Derrick.

See post #304, in which I mention them. Are you arguing just for the sake of it? I think it's OK to express a weariness with getting owned on the glass whilst also acknowledging freshman mistakes. Frankly when those freshman mistakes are worked out they will probably still get owned on the glass.

yep. this team will never be a good reboudning team. not how beilien recruits.

itd be nice to have a team of perfect players and a system with zero flaws but that isnt realistic.

the best this team will ever hope under beilein as far as reboudning goes is average.

                  • Beilein recruited McGary, so, no. As for your second sentence, well, I got you covered there too - I said so in the same damn post. So go back and read it a third time. And then maybe consider being a little more Pacers Digest here. This forum isn't about unwarranted nitpicking. Better things go on here.

                      • mcgary was a skilled mid-post big that happened to have rebounding skills. if he was the same guy without a jumper he wouldnt have been recruited.

but please, go on with your annual tirade about rebounding, as if this is the first time youve seen a beilein coached team.

                        • Was thinking during the game how sloppy the offense was. Went and looked after...still shot almost 46%, almost 39% from 3, no TOs in the 2nd half(mostly cause Walton wasn't in foul trouble) and I'd guess well over 1ppp. If this is "average", we're in good shape.

                          • That said, to fully reach offensive potential, we'll need Chatman. You see glimpses, but he's gotta have that breakout game.

                            • Looking better now than same time last year, certainly. I was surprised by those numbers too. They did a great job getting to the free throw line.

                              • So who knows this Villanova team well? What I picked up in the umhoops preview:

-They start 2 seniors and three juniors. I bet they can execute their offense a lot better right now than we can ours.

-heavy perimeter-oriented offense has become a fixture at Villanova and is universally accepted to the point where it doesn’t matter who is on the roster, you have a good idea of what to expect from Villanova. The Cats feature Wright’s four guard offense with a starting lineup that goes 6-2, 6-3, 6-6, 6-7 and 6-11. Similar to Michigan, Villanova’s offense minimizes turnovers and relies on the three-point shot. Well, that definitely does sound familiar. Doesn't sound like they are as finesse as we are, in particular on offense.

-Looks like they are deeper. IMO that's where I'd take this if I were Beilein -- get more four-year guys, be less reliant on 2-3 wings and maybe have 5-6 you can roll with. You're more protected from a shooting drought because it happens that 3 guys can be off from 3 the same night but less frequently 5 guys. Allows you to defend more aggressively, too. I know Beilein likes to keep fouls down, but you can still stay in front of your man. Even if really and truly all they try hard to do is to defend the 3 line and have a credible guy underneath a la Morgan, that would really help. I'd like to think that this is what Beilein had in mind when he binged on low-profile wing recruits this spring -- four-year guys interchangeable on the wings.

Anyways, for tonight, after reading the umhoops preview I'm definitely expecting a loss but hoping for a competitive game. I'll be curious to see how much Beilein takes advantage of the fact that one of his wings is gonna have a 4-inch height advantage.
