  • Wisconsin pulls yet another rabbit out of their hat, my god. But the more interesting development is that Minnesota and now Illinois finished 8-10 in conference play, tied with Purdue and a game behind Iowa. Obviously Purdue's out unless they win the B1G tourney. Iowa is on the back end of the bubble; their non-conference scheduling killed them plus a lack of wins against top-tier B1G teams. Minnesota and Illinois probably should still be in considering the weak resumes of other teams across the country. But they better not lose their first B1G tournament game and give the selection committee another reason to keep them out.

    • First round B1G matchups

#5 Wisconsin v. #12 Penn State (rematch of today's game)
      #6 Iowa v. #11 Northwestern
      #7 Purdue v. #10 Nebraska
      #8 Illinois v. #9 Minnesota (play-in game?)

Buckeyes are locked in as the #2 seed and will play the winner of Purdue/Nebraska. Ironically that seems easier than being the #1 seed and getting Illinois/Minnesota as your second round opponent. Maybe not with the way they are playing, however

I dunno anymore between Illinois/Iowa/Minnesota who will get left out. Illinois has the best OOC wins of the three.

      • What goes on in the mid-major conference tourneys can have a major impact on the bubble teams, e.g. when an undeserving team wins its conference tourney but also has a top 40 type team and sends two teams to the tourney; that takes a spot away from a team like the Illini/Iowa bubble teams. Minnesota looks like a tourney team imo even with a 1st round loss in the B10 tourney.

Wouldn't Michigan be #5 since they lost to Wisconsin?
What's the difference between an OSU grad and a park bench? A park bench can support a family of four.

That would give us Wisky in the second round if we can somehow get by the mighty nittany lions.

                • Wisky kicks our ass on a neutral court. But no mind. Penn State kicks our ass in the first round!

                  • Wisconsin needed an incredible combination of luck and Michigan's own stupidity to beat Michigan at home.

                    • Seems like probably we'll test hack's "no way IU beats M 3 times" hypothesis. :-)

MSU-OSU and IU-M. That could be an epic Saturday if form holds.

                      • That would require us to win 2 games in the SAME post-season tournament. Surely you jest!

                        • Ever since Illinois beat Michigan twice in the regular season in 89 and then lost to them in the tournament, that has been a bracket-picking rule of mine. I'm pretty sure it works out most of the time. It's a hard thing to do. And that's why losing to Penn State last week was in the plan all along, you see...

Then again I hear Zeller will be out in Hollywood this week with his acting coach, so perhaps next time he might foul out our entire frontcourt in the first half.

                          • I honestly don't care about the conference tournament. I'm fine going out at that point -- more food for thought for Beilein, and I don't get the feeling that the brackets are going respect the Big Ten this year -- lesser teams will get the higher seeds because they didn't have so many elite rivals. So, fine. An extra day of rest would be OK for me. I really want that #2 spot out west.
