  • For everybody whose pussy hurts because Stanford got called for a personal foul on Golson...this dipshit is clearly leading with his helmet and doesn't even try to let up before hitting a QB on the ground. Was it helmet to helmet per the letter of the law? Certainly not...but any player pulling this is taking the chance that it gets called...and it did. Tough shit. Golson's out with a concussion because of this by the way.

    • Actually, seems like Golson's pussy still hurts.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]?
      Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.

      • Here's a nice shot of our slot receiver Toma getting mauled on the ten yard line. This was a third & four. Reception gives ND the first on the ten with just under two minutes left in the half. No PI call...we have to go with the FG attempt, botch the snap and get no points following an 80 yard drive.

        • Golson stepping out of bounds before fumbling...again, in the red-zone...following a 70+ yard drive in the 3rd qtr. This was reviewed and inexplicable not reversed...of course not as inexplicably as the silence amongst big ten fans for this failure of officiating.

          • Someone on the ND forums made an interesting point regarding the goal line stand...it's not just that Stanford stops blocking and ND starts celebrating based on halted forward progress and a whistle...but the side judge is actually running out onto the field...something they simply don't do until a play is over. Forward progress is stopped at the 1:00 mark. In the following five seconds the side judge is at the pile.

            • Because the above won't be good enough for you...after all...forward progress is subjective...can't actually hear the whistle...and will choose to ignore the fact that the side judge waited until the whistle on the other 186 offensive plays in this game...here is the Stanford ball carrier's elbow hitting the ground...

              Have fun...good night.

I'm actually going to enjoy watching Stoops rail that team. And make a ton of money fading Irish tools.
Wow, Talent and I share the exact same sentiments. Hoping both Stoops and baby Kif have their way ... I do not want the see the Domers get to the BCS... they may still get there with 2 L's ... but late in the season L's seem to be a heck of a lot more damaging.

                  • First #601: The Stanford player's head is out front because that's how human beings are constructed. Secondly his shoulder on the opposite side is lining up for the blow, and is not leading with his head. Third, he's leaning down, because the QB is going down. Fourth.. the QB isn't down yet, its still a live play. Change the uniforms on the players. Make the ball carrier a Stanford player, and the defender a ND player. What's the call?

#603: From that angle you can't determine if contact is being made from behind, before the ball got there. Looks to me like the defender may have gotten there just as the ball got there, and slapped it away. If so, its legal.

#604: You may have a legit beef, considering that looking behind the play and seeing what appears to be the HL looking at the ball carrier, instead of his feet. Its his job to pick that up. If he's OOB, then there should have been a whistle, and the play was dead at that point. These must have been Big East officials. ND used to use B1G officials for home games, but decided they weren't getting a fair shake, and fired them. Oh well.

                    #605:
but the side judge is actually running out onto the field...something they simply don't do until a play is over. Forward progress is stopped at the 1:00 mark. In the following five seconds the side judge is at the pile.
You have the mechanics wrong. The side judge DOES have responsibility to COME IN on a close play at the goal line, or any other play where a close call is required. Wing officials ABSOLUTELY should come running in, even if there has been no whistle yet, to make sure they have located the ball. The Stanford player never hits the ground. He's on top of other players in the pile. His forward progress never stops. The ball crosses the plane. Its a TD upon proper review. And again, .. if the whistle had blown, this becomes an easy call for the crew, and they avoid going to the booth for a review. If there's a whistle, its not reviewable. Since there was a review, the on field crew must have agreed that they did not blow the play dead. Its very simple.

And finally #606: expanding on your argument, where is the ball when the elbow hits the ground? Does it pierce any part of the plane of the goal? If so, its a TD and a dead ball. Line up for the try.

                      • looking at the video and several others ... the elbow moved parallel with the ground for a period of time, but the actual point of contact was not until after the goal line was crossed.

Most talking heads seem to agree it was a TD. I can see why ND fans don't want to agree.

They are having a magical year where just about everything is going right (including 6 turnovers from DR to gift wrap a game) ... after some of the bad luck from the past couple of years, it's just things evening out. It's all good.

                        • I haven't heard any unbiased observer say it wasn't a TD. Just guessing, but I bet Lou Holth said it wasn't, and Mark May said it was.

                            • It was ruled that forward progress had been stopped. The replay officials reviewed it to see if there was indisputable proof that the play could be reversed. Did any angle show that he crossed the plane without a shadow of a doubt? Without his elbow or other body parts not touching the ground? I think not.
