  • Gholson, athletically and skill set wise, is a perfect fit for Kelley's offense. He's wanted a QB like Gohlson since he arrived and has not had one, having to duct tape an offense together with two shitty starters that are not well suited for his schemes.

If Gohlson can rise above new starter jitters and manage the offense like Kelly wants it managed, ND could have a decent season. Their defense is supposed to be really good this season ..... at least that is what's being said.
Mission to CFB's National Championship accomplished. But the shine on the NC Trophy is embarrassingly wearing off. It's M B-Ball ..... or hockey or volley ball or name your college sport favorite time ...... until next year.

    • ND lost a lot of guys off of last year's defense. I don't expect them to be that good.

      • Virginia Tech was recruiting Everett Golson when he was in the ninth grade. VT badly, badly wanted him. Rivals ranked him as a three-star, but if you look at his offer list(Michigan, Ohio State, Florida, Stanford, Tennessee, VT, etc.), he shouldn't have been a three-star prospect. He's a very smart kid, and he's the kind of dual-threat QB that historically has given Michigan fits. I'm not saying Michigan can't beat Notre Dame now that Golson's the starter, but he's going to add an element to Notre Dame's offense that Michigan hasn't had to deal with from the Irish in a long time.

        • Well, Mattison pretty much shut down ND's offense last season with a brilliant scheme. I'm fairly certain Mattison will once again have something cooked up to shut down ND.

          • Is Golson a redshirt freshman? I can't find any stats on him.

Michigan's defense has gotten completely shredded three years in a row by ND, but it has been a combination of power running and pro style passing by 5* QBs that has done it. They will no longer have Michael Floyd. I feel more confident in our ability to shut them down this year than at any other time since the beginning of the RichRod era. After all, our guys face Denard Robinson in practice on a daily basis. At the same time, I have seen no evidence of stellar defensive coaching at ND since Kelly took over, or at Kelly's previous stops.

            • I heard Kelly on the radio this morning. he seemed to make it clear that Golson was the starter forthe Navy game because of the suspension of what's his name. Golson ran the ND scout team last year. Word here is that he was in academic trouble so he was relegated tothe scout team but he studied the offense religiously to learn it.

              • Either way, Michigan fans have enough of a history with this type of QB to suffer a reflexive shudder or two for sure.

                • Michael Floyd has been the guy who has done the most damage against Michigan over the past 2-3 seasons. He's gone, and there's a new guy under center.

But, I agree that when it comes to ND, Michigan has had its share of losses due to the luck of the Irish, and some new hotshot player.

                          • Golson doesn't need to worry about jitters, he needs to worry about what the Apoplectic Purple-Faced Monster will do to him after his first mistake.

The M/ND game could be another high scoring affair, I'm afraid. NDs defense is just getting worse each year under the "Offensive Genius" (sound familiar?) and their secondary is in tatters. However, M does have some trouble in South Bend and with mobile QBs.

Be a fun one to watch if you like scoring, though.
