This Cal thing could really get ugly for them. Hearing that both Shaq Thompson and Jordan Payton are both opening up their options.

Given what just happened to us...I kinda feel for them...but that's CFB darwinism I guess.

As much as the last 24 hours has been a 180, there isn't alot there that truly helps us in terms of need. We are weak at WR and CB. We might have an outside shot at Payton, but I hear that we didn't necessarily stay on him after he committed to Cal. Also, Cal was supposed to be Wright's last visit, but we kind of assumed we had him regardless.

Obviously, it's never a bad thing to add a five star QB (now confirmed) and a five star DE (between ND & Auburn), but neither of those were positions of need. I guess a tangible benefit would be that Kelly & Co. now have some ammo when they walk into a recruits living room to make a pitch. I know that Nelson Agholor is more willing to listen now. Don't know anything about where Neal is. ND was at Darby's house last night, making a soft pitch and just keeping ourselves in the discussion.

I hear that Shaq Thompson will be following the coaches to Washington.

Hardy Nickerson & Bryce Treggs are apparently holding with Cal.

I just need him to hold out for the rest of the month...I'm more excited for him being part of the class than I am for him at the QB position. I'm really looking forward to both Hendrix & Golson...

I hope to hell Kiel doesn't see the field anytime soon. Rees just finished his soph season, and pretty much proved that though he's competent, he's not the answer. Andrew Hendrix was very impressive in the time he saw this last season...and the things I hear about Everett Golson are extremely encouraging...but then everybody's favorite QB is the one we've never seen play.

If Kelly is starting a true freshman in his 3rd season at ND...we're in deep shit.

In other news...it sounds like Kelly has finalized his staff. In addition to Hiestand at OL as mentioned above, we'll be bringing in Iowa St. defensive coach Bob Elliott (son of former UM coach Bump Elliott.

Both of these guys have respectable resume's records...little of which matters if they don't have some chemistry with the staff. We'll see...

Heh...most of us are happy it's not a Grand Valley State assistant. In addition to a decent resume/experience, Elliot has both coached and worked with Kerry Cooks and Bob Diaco, the nucleus of our defensive staff.

2 - year extension for Kelly? Seems like they are all on thin ice, at least FatBoy Weis landed $40M before he was shown the door.
