I've always been fine with Notre Dame remaining independent. I hope they do. I've never understood this desire on the part of some to see Notre Dame "forced" into joining a conference for football.

Wow Brian Kelly is the gift that keeps on giving, at least RR just ran-off players.

Last week Notre Dame's coach was quoted about making a distinction between the players he recruited and those from the Charlie Weis era.

"You can see the players that I recruited here," Kelly told reporters Thursday. "You know who they are. We've had one class of recruiting kids that I've had my hand on. The other guys here are coming along. But it's a process. It can't happen overnight. They're getting there. We're making good progress."

The message was subtle but clear enough to blow up Twitter when Irish players read it. Most notably, linebacker Manti Teo, who angrily tweeted, "Playin for my bros and that's it!!!"

Wow. I think that might be an even stupider comment than Rodriguez's "I don't have time for defense and special teams" quip. Is Kelly TRYING to lose his team??

Kelley may be a great Xs and Os guy but if all of this is accurate, he is a terrible leader. Seems to have temper issues and does a poor job of controlling his emotions if his public persona is an accurate reflection of that.

I have no love lost for ND. If they've screwed up ANOTHER coaching hire, that's fine with me. Turmoil at that institution helps Michigan recruiting, helps Michigan win football games against them in the OOC. The sooner that agreement ends, the better.

Playing ND is a MUST, there is not a better match in the Nation than on that day. Michigan v. ND/OSU are iconic matches, worth preserving as they had stood the test of time for over a century.

I'd rather see a ninth conference game. That's where I am in this. I agree ND/M is an iconic game but OOC games are becoming obstacles to the BCS. Truth be told, they are becoming and should be preseason scrimmages as a warm-up for conference play.

My view is that if ND wants to play Michigan, they can join the conference.

I agree with Jeff. Teams like M and MSU playing ND every year help prop them up as an independent with their own sizeable revenue stream to not share. Stop being codependent and cut the cord on them until they join a conference and share revenue like most everybody else.

Could just be this Buchanan hat though.
