2013 NFL Combine: Florio says teams want to know if Manti Te'o is gay
Says more about the NFL than it does Teo'...
Anyway, the kid seems to be in meltdown mode...and not getting very good advice from his handlers. From what I understand, he can make up alot of ground at ND's pro day in a few weeks, but that's just from reading what others say. I really have no firm understanding of the in's / out's of the NFL draft.
I'm still willing to bet that he goes in the first round.
Allowing openly gay men and women to serve in the military was purely 100% a political correctness move that was imposed from the top down, and it's way too soon to say if the military has adjusted successfully or not. There's no track record yet, and even if that track record ends up being bad, I guarantee you no news outlet would ever report it in a million years. The subject is totally untouchable, and anyone who speaks out is branded as a bigoted, hate mongering homophobe.
There are some illegitimate, irrational reasons to not want an openly gay football player on your team, but there are legitimate, rational reasons too.

Well I think the rational ones stem from the irrational ones you're going to get. Football teams are in it to win and not to promote diversity and acceptance. No dual mandate there.
Point taken -- when you hear about it in the media, as a few months back or whenever it was, you're going to get that side of it, sure.
There are, perhaps, non-bigoted "natural" or "visceral" reasons, but I wouldn't call them rational. If you've played a lot of teams sports or showered a bunch at your workout club, you've almost certainly showered with or in the vicinity of some who is gay. Without incident.
It's fairly irrational to assume some showering with a gay guy in that environment will lead to some sort of "bad event."
It's a visceral reaction, not a rational one.
Dan Patrick: What was your reaction to [Urban Meyer being hired]? Brady Hoke: You know.....not....good.
It's just as "irrational" to assume that women showering with men will lead to some sort of "bad event", or that heterosexual men in that environment will act in an unprofessional manner.
The threat of getting raped in the shower isn't the only concern at play. Has anyone considered the possibility that maybe it's okay to not feel comfortable getting naked with somebody who might be sexually attracted to you when you are not sexually attracted to them?
