This rhetoric might be the same, but I think this is a much different situation than the '01 BCS disaster under Davie and/or the '07 BCS disaster under Weis.
There are two things in my life that will never change: my dislike of osu and ND football.

I'll post what I have from insider's I trust. Respectfully request that you guys keep it here as its from a pay-site and I'd rather not get booted off...
Source #1 from earlier this afternoon. Extremely vague and cryptic. Not even sure he's even directly addressing Kelly / Eagles.
"I'm really trying my best not to respond to all the post-op garbage and nonsense I'm hearing and reading. Fortunately, busy is good right now, and it's also the case that we have a good handle on what happened and what needs to happen going forward. Whether we get where we all want to be ultimately will depend on a few certain matters that may be outside the scope of our reach, institutionally and with regards the NCAA's allowance of some unsavory practices (ie, think "process" in certain places), but we'll get after everything we can and chase this thing down with all we have, and that's already begun. There are no shortcuts and quick fixes for us at ND, but isn't that the way we've built our well-earned legacy and isn't that true to our own standards."

Source #2 from about an hour ago.
"On Wednesday evening ESPN reported that Brian Kelly had interviewed with the Eagles and there was some mutual interest between the Notre Dame head coach and the NFL franchise. One source told XXXXXXX this on Tuesday morning and that Kelly could interview with Philadelphia as soon as today. However, we were unable to get a second source to confirm that information in the last day. One source linked to the situation said he'd be surprised if this was much more than a negotiating tactic by Brian Kelly. Another source told XXXXXXX that the University was already working on a new deal for the head coach.
For now, that's what we know."

These certainly are not mutually exclusive…I honestly don't know.
One possible issue here could be an extremely stark and bold warning to the ND elite. There has been a lot of back/forth with a recruit over the last couple of weeks. Al-Quadin Muhammad is an extremely promising OLB/DE prospect out of New Jersey who was supposed to have been an ND lock 4-5 months ago, pending clearance of admissions. Up until at least a month ago, all signs were that he was going to be Irish, then all of a sudden he lists a top four and starts taking visits elsewhere...
…he committed to Miami four days ago.
The language that source #1 used insinuates (to me) that there is some head-butting going on with how this was handled (or mis-handled) and Kelly just put his finger on the nuclear option and said “dare”. Not sure how I feel about that.
Regardless, it’s not a good situation. Louis Nix and Zach Martin are both locks for the draft, and both have committed to coming back next year. We are on the verge of signing the #1 recruiting class in the nation…can’t even imagine what our verbal’s are hearing right now.
The above is just me thinking out loud…

I think this is all a negotiating ploy by Kelly .... time to squeeze the Irish for all their worth.
I am surprised we haven't heard any concerns voiced yet from ND commits. Even if Kelly stays, which I am almost certain he will, I wonder if the fact that he looked at it will make recruits worry he won't stay for their full four years.
Time for Urban to interview with Eagles ... Talent, heh.

Interesting comment, do you know what he is referring to?
Not exactly. Certainly could be speaking to the vast chasm between what he (Kelly) is obligated to vs the "flexibility" enjoyed by our most recent opponent. Over-signing and other issues that has been hot both here and on ND boards since we got stomped. I had promised myself that I would refrain from that bit…I hate being the type of fan that grabs onto anything that would deflect from the obvious truth that we lost to a superior football team. Not that I don’t think there are legit issues…just that I believe one has to face reality to have any credibility. Also…I fucking hate the ND fans that tout academics as an excuse.
Anyway, if this is Kelly either testing waters or sending a message, we will know pretty quick. The longer it goes, the more it hurts the program and his ability to continue building it. If he’s staying, I’m guessing that we’ll know within 24-48 hours.
